Hey Everyone how ya all doin?

Just would like to know what type of engine oil best suits 202 XU1? currently using Castrol GTX2. I have also heard some people using BP Coarse 50. Any info would be great.
Cheers John.

I always used corse 50, but it is no longer made, which is a shame because thats what it's had from the day it was brand new. I've switched to corse + which is 25W60 in the 308. I found GTX2 to go off quickley and made it a bit rattely on startup and didn't give me great oil pressure, but thats just me.

I have used GTX2 in my 202 since day 1. My engine does not travel more than 3000kms between changes and have never had a problem. My motor has done 130,000 kms now, and the inside of my motor (inside rocker cover etc) is as clean as when it was fist kicked over.

Many have their own favourite brands but imho, at the end of the day, of more importance for engine longevity is regular servicing.

Hi...I've been using penrite hpr40 (25-70). Just changed to a 25-60 and I swear the car seemed to instantly smell a bit 'oilier' (& did still after several hours of driving) not badly, but definitely noticeable- can't seem to see any (new) major leaks or any other reason for it (there's been a bit of a leak around the rear main for a while). The 308 still goes well, but is a little worn - could it be the thicker 25-70 was less likely to leak/burn than the thinner 25-60??

Castrol is owned by BP now anyway, so it's going to be much of a muchness.

If your motor is stock xu1 and in good condition and not used in high temp scenarios, racing etc, and it runs the regular 80C thermostat then I wouldnt use a heavier oil than an anythingW/50. Anything heavier will just create more friction, less power, more fuel use and heat to be rejected at the radiator. My own figures showed an improvement of fuel economy of 5% in changing from a 60 to a 50 grade oil, the numbers would be the the same for power and possibly the difference would be greater at high rpm.
