G'day,
This afternoon i had an automotive engineer look over my car, because of my V8 efi conversion. There's supposedly an ADR that says i have to have, what the engineer calls a "unleaded fuel filler restrictor".
This is installed in all new cars. It's a part that fits in the pipe where you fill up with fuel, kind of looks like a one way valve, or flap so the fuel doesn't spit back out when filling. Because i've installed an engine that runs on unleaded, in victoria it's a rule for me to install one of these.
My question is, where do i buy one and will it have to be welded in?

id be more likely asking where am i supposed to be able to buy leaded fuel from. to the best of my knowledge you cant buy leaded fuel at any servo in australia, not counting avgas which you need a permit for and if you are that keen youll get around the smaller filler neck. bloody beurocrats that dont seem to posses once once of common sense

Cut your old one off about 3 inches down, but 4 inches of hose that goes over it and just go to the wreckers and find one that fits the hose and put it on and be done with it.

I bought the filler neck from a VN commodore wreck. You can cut the unleaded filler neck off. Then cut your existing filler neck off and join the commodore filler using rubber hose and clamps similar to those used on drop tanks.

Oh right, so i just join a commodore one to the torana one with flexible hose and clamps... i thought there may have been an aftermarket one you can buy, my engineer said you can purchase one that just slips down inside the filler neck, kinda clips onto the top, but uses a different cap?
anyone heard of aftermarket ones, i'm not too keen on cutting my filler neck, i want to keep the fuel tank in the car.. i'm guessing you'd have to pull it out to cut the three or so inches off...

you could get really technical and have someone solder the two together.
have't heard of the clip on one but if your engineer knows he must know where to get them from, might be worthwhile.
LX8VD69 bought up a good piont, who the F#$% is selling leaded at the bowser anymore anyway?

I havent heard of a slip-in one but as the guys above have said, cutting it off and joining the new one on is the way to go.
Just be careful that you can get a locking cap for the tank you get it from because on the torries the fuel tank is exposed where on the commodores its behind a "secure" flap. Woudlnt want a tank of fuel siphoned!
on the ADR thing... even though you cant buy leaded anymore and as such it's a useless thing.. its still in the bloody rules ( perfect example of why this country needs an overhaul of its legal system including all areas of law!).

I have just gotten back from my drive into rare spares and my local performance shop, this is what i've bought
I plan on pulling out my fuel tank today, cutting the required amount off the filler neck, cutting the required amount off the VR stato filler neck and joining the two with the rubber hose and clamps i have shown in the pictures.
I'll take a few snapshots and post them up to let everyone know i've gone.

As i mentioned above.. Locking cap available?
Is the hose you got suitable for fuel? I fear that th hose i'm using opn my drop tank ISNT and is leaking when i fill up etc.

My engineer also mention that you could by press in restrictor new. I used the commodore filler neck because I sold my Torana filler neck with my old drop tank.
I now have a Commodore locking cap and a door switch on my number plate flap that triggers the car alarm.
You could try the following.

^yeah make sure the hose is suitable for fuel......take pics so people know what to do down the track, this EFI 5L conversion seems to be heaps popular now days.

I have yet to cross this bridge, but re engineering mine is a must and will be taken in to see John Wilson within about 6 months 
Why rush lol..
Damn well know he will get me for noise though, 97Db just dont cut it
I must admit the filler tube never came into our thoughts... Simple enough to rectify though.

Howdy,
Yesterday afternoon i modified my fuel filler. This is what i did.
Removed fuel tank from torana.
This picture shows where i have cut the existing part of the filler neck off. I cut the VRstato filler neck around 2" down, just below the flap inside.
This is the finished result, after joining it together with flexible hose, and hose clamps. Before putting the fuel tank back in i replaced all the fuel hose with new ones, i found the existing ones were cracked and on their way out..
I filled up with fuel this morning, it works a treat and doesn't leak at all. I'm very pleased with the result.

Up here in Qld, when fitting later motors to early cars, the filler had to be changed also. Not to fit a flap in, but so you could not use the leaded bowser at the servo. (different size) So all the guys doing conversions had to do a similar thing by cutting out the old filler and get a new one put in. This still has to be done even though you cant get leaded fuel.
However a way to get around this is to get a small "UNLEADED ONLY" sticker and place this beside the filler.
Saves a hell of a lot of stuffing round!!
You might be able to get away with this in other states too??? Cant hurt to ask the engineer.

In WA you are required to fit the restrictor and the sticker.
