Lads. I'm pulling a straight cut timing gear off a cam I'm putting in my 186, and putting the stock one on. (Save pulling the crank gear off). I'm wondering about opinions of gear pullers - quality v price etc. Would it be better/cheaper to just get it done at a engineering shop? Maybe a shop someone has happily dealt with before in Brisbane.

Cheers
Jim

Gear pullers seem not to have enough force to drift them off. I have always used a press to remove and install them. and mech shop should be able to help. If you walkin with and 6 pack and approx knock off time you might be able to use the liquid currency.. ;)

Cheers

i just strolled into one of the major mechy shops in town, brads service center, said "hey brad its dj, i'm gonna use your press" he said "what for" i said "cam gears" he said "ok don"t brake anything"

the rest is history :) . for payment i brought him a coke out of the vending machine...

I just pulled the crank gear off with a harmonic balancer puller....you can get the cam gear off with a drift if you heat it up with boiling oil..its a 2 person job as someone has to catch the cam.

LOL....

Last time I recall my harmonic puller uses three threaded rods. unless yours looks more like a gear puller that goes on the outside.. :S

my crank gear had 2 threaded holes in it...just used the top and bottom slots of the puller..straight off. Can even get steering wheels of with it.

A picture says a thousand words.Shame about that.
