I have located a SLR 5000 today for sale but I am still a little concerned that it is just SLR plates on another body.

My question is do all the 3 plates (safety, vin and option) have numbers that tie them all together?

The chasis number and the compliance plate match each other and the and the VIN and Option plate match each other but I cant find any matching numbers between both lots?

Is the norm? I walked away after seeing this but it has got the better of me as I think I can pick the car up cheap

Cheers Byron

They do not tie with each other, all you can do is check the year of the car from the vin number as well the type of engine that was installed as well as the place it was manufactured but thats it.

Thanks for that guys I had a bit of a look through the other thread the build dates match thats all I can work out.

plates say

"5-75 BLH 041141M"

"8D69TEJ479890H"

and
"LH8VD69
479890M
1905-19V
568-17342"

The car is red but has Green paint under in a few spots, bumpers are chrome with bumpers, fibreglass bobtail, full LH SLR interior except the dash is the leather pattern with the torana ashtray, motor does not have HT on the number.

I guess the best thing to help here is what is the paint code is it green?

Cheers Byron

VIN and body options match. Make sure BLH 041141M is stamped on the chassis rail behind the RH headlight.

ensure the number is stamped in the correct size letters and in the right spot.
ensure the thickness of the stamped area is the same as the other side of the car.
sometimes the newly acquired number is fitted with the joins under the pollution canister and blended with filler.
check the chassis rail for evidence of welding.
look under the wheel arch at the bottom of the plate for signs of tampering also.
the tags for that time would be fitted with the smaller rivets.
