Stone guard

hey guys just remounting the stone guard after a year or so and im wondering if the holes in the chassis rail where the guard bolts on at the rear are ment to be threaded or you just wack a screw in there and put bolts in at the front...?

From memory it is a self tapper with a 3/8 head or 7/16 head.

They are a special threaded bolt, cant remember the correct thread size though.

ah ok then. how would i find that out? has somebody got one they could wip out and measure the threads at all??

I agree.

I can't remember either, but 3/8 or 7/16 is the right one. I think it is 7/16 but i wouldn't put money on it. Grab both a 3/8 and 7/16 and try them without the stone tray in the way first. :spoton:

I HATE putting the stone tray back on. :furious:

I vote 5/16" or 1/4" unf. from memory????
the race cars is Dzus fastened on because I too hate putting these things on!

ahh i see. never seen it before. i might be a third year apprentice but dont usually look outisde what cat produce in the way of fasteners. bit silly just been working in the same place for too long.
no worries ill get a couple of those hardcore screws that are "resistant to cross threading"

The bolts are 3/8 head sized about 1" long. They have a split down the end of the thread, similar to a self tapper.

Oh another thing i have just learned... Don't try and remove the SL/GTR/XU-1 stone tray without the car jacked up. Theres barely enough ground clearance to get the 'prongs' out of the front end. The S stone tray (which doesn't have 'prongs' protuding into the nosecone) should be fine to remove without the car jacked up.

no worries. thanks alot for that steve. is it fine thread do you know?? mine hasnt got any prongs on it just holes to bolt it up with.

thankx steve for that huge help. ill just tap the holes out and wak some bolts in there instead of self tapping jobies.
