New Torana

I've owned about five Toranas in my time and they each have a story but none with the ending that I wanted, so just lately ive been thinking about Toranas again(it comes and goes).I have to build my dream Torana before I get too old(as if you could be too old for Toranas)I don't want to go into any long winded rabble about what I like or want to do but I have got lots of ideas, nothing new that hasn't been done before, just something I can say that iv'e done.So on that note can I ask some questions for you guys and gals with all the knoweledge?????
Can anybody tell me what go fast goodies are avaliable for the Holden V6?, are there any preferred year better than others?? e.g. VN VP VR VT, part of my plan is to fit one to an LC 2 door, (when I find one),and if any body has had expierence with various kits for body stiffening i.e. chassis strengthening struts from the rod shop, also with modifacations like roll cages? The way i'm looking at the cage is that it's main purpose is for structural ridgidity not as a roll over protection as such. The other thing is that I live in S.A. and I not real sure what I can do and what is dreaming As I said none of what is in my head is new or never been done before but I think its the attention to detail that I want to apply that will satisfy me and hopefully end in a cool Torana for cruising. Iv'e got hundreds of other questions but all in good time.
I hope this is the first of many installments to this thread, so when I get to know some of you that are interested I will let you in on some more of my plans
Cheers for now justin...........

There are plenty of people on here that are more than willing to help you out with advice or with parts.
Tis a shame that you live in SA as my mate on the Central Coast of NSW has 2 x 2-door LCs for sale but I am sure that the forum members over your way can help.
Could you do an old fella a favour and when you post, could you please break up your sentences into paragraphs as the older you get, the harder it is to read block printing.
It looks like your already have the plans laid out for your project
Hope it all goes well
Regards ...................... Barry

At the moment i'm working six days of seven so time to dream is not short. I'm thinking LC Coupe of course, I like em because they are more sleek and sportier than the later models, I like to think of them as about E-type jagish...
The first thing would of course is a bones up rebuild of the whole car.
Including chassis strengthening and the , as yet to be designed, roll cage. The only thing i'm intersested in here is structural ridgidity, I dont plan on rolling it anyway!!!!!
Late model alloytec V6(I here somewhere that they have a 190kw model)
5 or maybe 6 speed manual, LSD , but must be Holden not ford, 4 wheel disks, you can get Whoppers at Hoppers(pun intended) with maybe 15"rims with the obligitory low profiles,
all the usual suspension mods, nothing new but I have a plan
Super straight clean lines minimal interior of which is a thread in itself, and lots of other little ideas i've collected over the last 25 years and with the attention to detail i'm ready to give it.
Thanks for the cool info so far, catch ya on a hot day...........

A roll cage will still help, though the legalities will come down to your engineer of choice. A person I know (in NSW) got away with registering his car as a 2 door after he put a cage in, welded but looked like it got bolted. Not too sure on the specifics but yeah...
Dattoman is currently working on a Torana "hoppers" kit. He is the resident brake specialist and has his own shop out in WA. I'm waiting for it because it should be same, if not better than the hoppers kit and cheaper.
You did mention something about only holden parts and no ford parts, but the hoppers kit uses ford calipers.
You would probably want to change the rear diff while your at it. I am using a R31 skyline diff, 3.45 ( LSD from a VL) - its got 28 spline axles, no weird drumbrake/handbrake thing and is cheaper to get than a VL diff.
Not too sure on the V6's. though there are some people on here doing that conversion. Check in 'Members projects and plans'

VPII - can source 4.1L crank and lots of other bits and pieces.
Maybe trying to source a Canadian 4.3L Alloytec would be good if money less of a drama.
Good luck, keep us posted on progress and search for a car.
Pop's-SS - PM me details on the LC's for sale please.

I too would like more details of the 2 doors for sale , nuthin like a trip to the east coast, I might even be able to disguise it as a holiday
I would like to learn more on the R31 skyline diff, JBird sounds just the thing......It's not that I dont like 9"ford but they are big, quite weighty, and I hear rob a lot of horsepower, especially behind a V6 as to a V8 say......Dunnow, just a thought.....
The good thing about one of these late model V6 motors is that they are already smooth, powerfull engines and one in standard trim except for extractors into a sports exhaust and maybe a chip would be performance enough for me and would be reliable as hell,(sorry it is easter) If you did it right, ie to be as good or better than a factory installation, and SOoooo Smooth in traffic.....but then again what about that 6 speed transmission??????

Quick rundown, Pintara = 25spline, non lsd. Skyline = 28spline (good), usually non lsd unless GTS model, ratio is 3.89 for auto and 3.7 for manual (i think). Centres are interchangeable between all B/W diffs. e.g LSD from VL + ratio. They can be had for less than $350 but most likely a lot less as some on here have got it for $120. Disc brakes are 260mm or something, single piston sliding caliper design with a twin cable handbrake design that actuates the pistons. They will fit a LC/LJ Torana with just pick-up point mods, though you will be restricted to running +45 offset 6" wide rims.
Either way for "just a V6" you won't need a 9", nor will you be competitively racing so ratio choice isnt a problem.
I am told the later the model V6 the better it is.
RE: the 6 Speed, what gearbox are you referring too? Tremec? Supra? Dellow would do a suitable bellhousing/adaptor for you.
