I have been bored..so that gets me thinking...
At the begiining of the L34 program Harry used Koni adjustables...Then at the end and through the A9X they used Gas shocks...I am wondering why I am so emphatic on using Konis if GOD upgraded to gas later?. Bilstein or even Monroe GT GAS are the same spec as his upgraded gas shock fitment I am told.
Your thoughts? M@ jump in here anytime.

The bloke I have had do suspension work for me before has been in the game for years, he recommends Koni adjustables for any older car, he has fitted them to his GT, they have been on for about 4 years and has never looked back.

Same for my HDT LC XU1 V8...BUT!..The question..are we doing it for nostalgic sake and is there a better mouse trap we are ignoring for the sake of history?

go price a set of Bilstein or koni adjustable, probably why they went to the standars type. (all are gas pressureised unless stated).
Monroe were and still are (corect me here) the OEM suppliers to GMH.
AFAIK monroe do not make the H/D shock as in the day as there new GT Gas shock is a carry on from the failed marketing of the sensatrack.

FYI shocks must be matched to car/spring weight for optimal control.

You can, with practise and a well dialed in driver/car combo... feel the koni's start to go away as the oil in the shock overheats.....particulaly the small bore shocks 1.75" v's 2" for the larger ones.
The gas charged monos don't do that.. that is probably the only difference, that i would note between the 2....
Gas will also add another 20lbs or so of bump rate to your set up.

Cheers Greg..

Interesting Greg...So you are talking sustained circuit use...What about hillclimbs sprints?..Do the gas work better early or the Konis?..Interesting subject..I have experienced the shock fade on a bike you are talking about but never noticed it in a car.

Harry said to Brock: I'm sick of climbing under that thing. This is what you get. Deal with it!
And he did. :spoton:

i bought a kmac bar and spring set from a guy who said they were from a race car.
all the bolts were drilled and wired so i tend to believe him. i never bothered taking the front kmac springs because they were way too short for me and the adjustable koni fronts too short also. the dates on the shocks were 74 and i inquired about rebuilding them which is possible. if youre interested i have his contact details still.

I ran Monroe GT gas with my HD Lovell springs in my LX for the first year it was on the road - the springs and shocks were both brand new.

After 12 months and about 10,000k's I changed the Monroes for Konis and the Monroe shocks felt like pushbike pumps they had so little resistance left in them.
They didn't feel like that when I put them in - I just put it down to the heavier springs worked them too hard and killed them.

After putting the Konis in on the mid setting, the front was ducking and diving badly and just didn't feel right at all so I took the front ones back out - the one on the left was softer on max setting than the right one was on the min setting - I sent it back and when it came back from being repaired all was good, they have felt pretty good ever since - I must have just got a faulty one.

Its cheaper to buy new ones these days than rebuild them..weird huh?

I have sourced some new Bilsteins..Boy are they hard!..I can now see the difference that Harry was on about as well as Greg/82911..It is seriously noticable.
