This missus in all her infinite wisdom thought I might like 5 laps in a V8 Supercar for making it to 35..... bless her heart, what an awesome gift!!!

For anyone who hasnt tried it, I cant think of a better stress relief after spending two weeks in perth with the in laws (from which I have just returned). Rocked up at QLD Raceway yesterday, had a 20min debrief and then onto the track. Man, those things FLY !! I had an absolute ball and thought I was going fast until I got passed by another 4 cars. When I looked at the video footage I was driving like a grandma. My only regret is that I didnt go faster !!!

Definately worth the $200 but get your monies worth and go hard. I will be next time !!

Oh, and if you can avoid it, dont travel long distances, with the in laws, to a city you cant easily drive away from, to attend a hokey wedding. 10 days in Hell would be time better spent...............

You get to drive the car yourself???
Or are you driven around by a professional driver and how
many laps do you get?

Sounds like fun! On a completely different level, but still relevant, if you ever get a chance to take any race car around any track, don't pass up the opportunity. I did a season of Dirt Circuit racing in 2005, and had an absolute ball, and it only cost us about $1000 all up, including the car itself!

i got my family to buy me the v8 race experience for my 23rd birthday (last year). i nagged and nagged and nagged and finally got my way!!

once my brother found out, he wanted to do it too

so off we went to calder, was fantastic, paid for 5 laps and cause the co driver knew i was having so much fun let me go around again whoo hoo!!

only prob was, took a lil bit to get the hang of it and by the last lap or so u could really make the most of it

its worth paying the extra lil bit for the in car video, would be better if it was dvd, but video is better than nothing to remember the experience!!

would love to do it again :spoton:

Yes I did read it, but couldnt beleive that you get to drive the car yourself
because i dont think you can drive the cars down here in Sydney (but I might
be wrong)

5 laps- does that include the instructor taking you around for a sighting lap?

I will wait for Tims reply!!

at willowbank(QLD raceway) earlier in the year a fellow hit the wall on his last lap.
never heard the outcome.
is he up and about yet?
any decision on what the cause was?
the car was cut to bits to get them out.

Purple LC

The website is http://www.v8race.com/

You sit through a training session goes for bout 30mins, just telling u how to enter corners and shit, no biggy

then u go out get into a suit, and helmet, wait for a car that turns up with a co driver in it, several cars on tract at once

u take the drivers seat and u drive the car around for 5 laps, the co drivers just sits beside u and instructs u when to change gears and where to enter corners, easy shit trust me

i did it at calder melb, not sure about other states check out the site

its worth it

not yet not yet not yet OK BRAKE NOW sort of stuff with their hand on the handbrake.
he said he was surprised at how fast they let you go and how late the brake points were.

Just to add.. and quell some of purple LC'c amazement.....
they aren't a V8 Supercar.. just a tarted up falc or commode.. cheap rollcage loud exhaust and some r spec tyres....
public liability will kill this so get in while it lasts.......
For those who have never been on a race track before.. You will love it.. For those that have.....Hmm a bit ho hum. :<_<:

Cheers Greg..

Thanks for that Greg.
I crewed for many years for Mal Rose who owns "The Supercar Experience"
here in Sydney and I couldnt for 1 minute think Mal would let the general
public drive one of his many 500HP plus machines around the track.

Kind of off topic, but my mum actually won a hot lap in a real v8 supercar around Hidden Valley. They had to bolt another seat in. Can't exactly remember which one, but it was a ford :furious:
Anyway, she had so much fun, but she spewed afterwards due to the accelleration and decelleration of these cars. I think the lap might have been part of a time trial.
On a different note, she never wants to get back in the SLR agian after we did a couple of small powerskids at Powercruise on the weekend. She much prefers the cage and harness :D

Arrimar - The dude mentioned the bloke that stacked at QLD Raceway. Apparently he was quite badly hurt but not killed. They have since put up two extra tyre barriers where the bloke hit the wall. Not sure of the reason he crashed though. Needless to say I just putted around that turn six.

That sounds like it would have been fun. They've been advertising it heaps over hear.
I've been for a few laps (as a passenger) in one of the Team Dyabolic (now defunct team Dynamic) cars around Mallala. That was petty good. I wasn't suprised with the acceleration but was blown away by the braking. I've also been a passenger in an group C A9X around Calder for 10 laps racing against other A9X's. That was an absolute buzz and suprising at how good they were as a race car.
By far the best I've done was drive a 700hp Spintcar around Speedway City for 25laps broken into two sessions 10 and 15 as well as sitting along side the owner of the car in the twin seatter car for 5 laps as part of the breifing session. :spoton:

If its not a real V8 Stupercar I don't think I'd be too excited myself
But it would still be fun none the less I bet

I'm hanging to try the Ultrafast Karts at Barbagello one day
They apparently lap around the same times as my racecar !!
