hi all
about to take my car for a test drive but need to fill the diff first. Its a standard nine inch ( not a lsd ), and was curious as ive heard different oils from differenet people.

Plus how much oil do i need to fill this sucker?

Any help would be most apprecited

Use a gear oil for the diff, minimum of 90w, I think the common one is 90/140 or similar.

A Ford 9" holds 2.4 litres of oil. There is (should be !) a plug in the centre on the pass. side to check the oil level. Fill it until it spills out.

If you go for a full synthetic like Royal Purple or Penrite 10 tenths then a 75w/90 is ideal.

I would like to know, how you put oil in a 9inch housing with no plug? Do i have to pull an axle out?

There are 2 different types of housings and they have differenent capacities which I don't know off the top of my head. Just a note if your filling it up blind.

My diff only has the plug on the side of the center. I found it easier to just pull an axel.
