hi all,

its getting cold. and at night coming home from work my rear window gets fogged up from the cold. it has tint, and currently the rear demister buttom isn't working.
would the heat generated by the rear demister affect the window tinting? ie cause it to bubble etc?

any opinions?

anyone got a wiring diagram for a uc hatch?

cheers
john

Surely it wouldnt bubble nearly all new cars have rear demisters with tinted windows. When we got ours tinted they said dont turn on the demisters or even the heater in the car for a week. All good.

New cars may have tinted glass(the tint is part of the glass mix) so the comparison ^ may not be valid. Even with window tinting, my thinking would be that the temperature reached by the element would not be as high as what would be achieved if the vehicle was parked in strong sunlight in summer. Perhaps there could be small problems in the immediate area near the elements with expansion/contraction of the film due to the high temperature gradient around the element.
Is the fog appearing on the inside or outside?

My "new" car didnt have tinted glass i went and got the windows tinted so in the occasion it is valid. Thats why i mentioned it.

in my experience as a former window tinter, you should have no problem with tint and a demister, unless maybe the tint is poor quality
as for the bottom of your demister not working, i would say, on the assumption that it is a one piece demister, that you have a scratch in the conductive element of the demister, probably from when it was tinted
this is repairable, but unfortunately, it can only be done without any tint on the window

as for the bottom of your demister not working,

Im not sure if he meant the demister button or the bottom?
If just a few are damaged then it is as Dave says

Chamois, if its not working full stop......then that is actually a better sign....its unlikely all the elements are broken.
Wiring diagram wont be of much help......but some diagnostics will. Demister is on same fuse as the lighter....so if the lighter doesnt work......check that out 1st.
The wire for the demister(violet) travels down the right side of the car, so the connection on the right side will be 12V(it changes to black under the parcel shelf(or somewhere else in the hatch) and that on the left will be earth(also black).
Check that you have 12V when on and check that the earth wire is also making good contact.
If no 12V at the rear then, next could be the switch, they do fail and suffer from the heat that is generated from the current in the circuit.
The switch itself has lamp to show that it is on......for this to work there is a third wire that goes from the switch to the same earth as the cig lighter.
