I have previously insured the Torana with Shannons.

I have a mate who owns a panel shop (for what thats worth) & he has a F**D GT collection who recommended I call GIO (131010), which is his insurer.

My 1974 SLR 5000 was previously insured for $15k with shannons with an annual premium of $450.00

Today I have changed over to GIO, with an agreed value of $30k for $406 per year- no photos, no fuss, over the phone.

I have also just bought shares in GIO before I posted this thread (LOL)

Every time I see Shannons at a car show I get them to look at and revalue my XU1.

The car is currently insured for $70K and costs $790.00 per year with the 8000km/5000mile usage limit. The last guy who valued it did so just after he saw me flog the crap out of it on the drag strip, and they have never checked the tags. Bit dangerous on their part when they are insuring for such a high value, especially when the fact it is genuine probably makes up over 80% of its value.

My early Holden ('59 FC) was insured with NRMA Vintage & Veteran for $12.5K cost $187.00 per year low usage, now with Shannons for $15K for around the same money. When I call Shannon's the guys are always great, know what they are talking about, and have a genuine interest. Shannons also turn up at heaps of events, and sponsor lots of stuff, as do NRMA.

That's why I insure with them.

I'm happy to be corrected, but have GIO ever assisted the car scene?

started by myself :tease:

and in response to the "has GIO ever helped the car scene"

How much has shannons benefited from their sponsorship. Its not like they are doing it out of love for the fellow car owner. They saw a market, they could exploit, catered to its needs and have made a killing from it. They pretty much have a monopoly on the market. hence why other insurers dont bother.

It is said in the above thread and numerous other times that shannons dont like young blokes (under 25) nomatter what the situations. might be alright for older blokes but GIO is awesome :spoton:

In response to CraigA & OrangeLJ, insurance will be a personal preference, based on many factors.

Personally with the factors on my equation at the moment GIO is the way.

I acknowledge shannons support & acknowledge they are a great company with great service & abundant support. Keep going Shannons & welcome to the 'kid on the block'

A bit of healthy competition for the insurers may benefit all of us Torana enthusiats & give us the best product at the best price.

but GIO is awesome

Have you made a claim yet? :tease:

Good luck to you younger guys, it really is good to see that GIO are helping you out with more accessible insurance.

and by the way

What makes you think GIO would be any different? Its commercially reaility that they're all in it to make profit. The difference is that once company actively supports the classic car movement, and like I said I would like it to be proven that GIO supports us to anywhere near the level Shannon's does.

Cheers,

Craig.

EDIT: Just read FATLH5000's post - well said, agree 100%. Bring on the competition from GIO, we'll be the ones who benefit.

The true test of any Insurance company is how they treat you when you make a claim.

Hopefully you won't have to find out the hard way.

Mick.

have business insurance with them, and have had a few claims public liability wise. Also had our bronco insured with them, had 2 claims on it and never had a problem.
