So you get about 200km out of 40L?

That's only about 14 mpg (20lts/100km). Should get at least 26 - 28 mpg properly tuned and driven.

The car is over 30 years old and they don't make the same kind of fuel back then as they do now ..super is long gone... And at over $1 dollars a litre you drive these cars for fun not as a regular driver..

I have one too. My economy is worse cause I think its leaking a bit.
Will change to Triple SU's just for kicks.
Sorry Rim, I don't count how many kms I do on a tank. But at a guess...around 150kms/40L ... I usually fill up before that just so I don't run out.

I just came back from a run from Sydney to Tamworth in my GTR - distance 400 klms each way. I have a worked 202 in my LJ with 3.08 diff. Fuel consumption was 10 litres per 100 klms. Although is was nearly all highway driving, I was very happy with the economy. So I know I can get 400klms out of a tank on the highway, would get about 300 klms around town.

On gas I average similar figures, say 12 - 16 litres per 100 with the LJ (now 173, Celica 5 speed, 3.36) my best so far has been 600ks on 66 litres of gas.

when the Model T ford came out in 1925 the average fuel consumption was 25mpg.
now in 2007, current trends in America are indicating that the average fuel consumption for a family car is 14mpg (with the introduction of the hummer).
so in 82 years you'd think we'd develop more fuel efficient cars (which we have to an extent) and that people would actually lean toward them... but no.

They have........except its affordable to drive something bigger that uses more fuel.so in 82 years you'd think we'd develop more fuel efficient cars (which we have to an extent) and that people would actually lean toward them... but no.

i owned a vx 5.7L 6spd with a 3.46:1 lsd, fitted ss ind cold air and it the dealer fitted hsv exhaust on the rear half.
Around town giving it a quirt every now & then would return 450-500 but on a trip say from the central coast to perisher it get there on a tank and drive around up & down the mountain for 3 days - easy 8.5 - 9L/ 100.
one time my trip said 475 distance travelled with 610 to empty, i took a pic as i couldnt believe it!
These late model 8's can run on a snif thats why i wouldn't stuff around with a v6 etc when you have the best of both world in efi 5.7 - 6.0/L.

Please don't think I am denying what you say but the fuel guages (which also run the trip computer) in VT onwards aren't reliable. I am forever supplying fuel to Commodore owners with 1/4 of a tank showing and 75klms left on the trip computer.one time my trip said 475 distance travelled with 610 to empty, i took a pic as i couldnt believe it!
