Hey all, got everything connected needed to start the V6 now but I'm having a few little issues...

The electric fuel pump (mounted under the false floor in the hatch) has pumped fuel to the start of the fuel rails on the v6 but I hasn't made it to the end at the regulator - I took the fuel hose off at the beginning and a bit of fuel and a fair bit of pressure escaped - don't know what the problem is there!

Where is the other outlet for the heater hose on a series II V6? - I can only see the long metal pipe that sticks out the driver's side of the water pump.

Thankyou.

You have a return line fuel system right?

So it pretty much means the fuel goes all the way thru 1 rail, crosses over to the other side rail and the reg opens to return excessive fuel/pressure.

If you have fuel on 1 side of the rail, it should be on the other, unless you have a blockage in your rails?

The fuel pump might only prime for a few seconds then shut off, put a pressure gauge on it and see how much psi its on.

Thanks LS1LX, I was thinking a while afterwards that the regulator might need vaccum to open properly (there is another pipe coming off it going next to the throttle body). I might bypass the reg and see if fuel comes out with just the pump running (without the engine cranking), I have a return line - using the old canister return line.

Hope this helps with routing your heater hoses.

One other thing to keep in mind. if you connect the fuel pump backward you will actually pump the fuel into the tank and the return line will pressureise the setup, thus will get small amount of fuel and heaps of pressure (whihc the guage will still ready for you as goodish.

Un plug the fuel rail hoses and run the pump, do you get any fuel out after 10secs?? If not I suggest that there is a small polarity issue, You can test this in a small galss jar. drop the suction side (at the tank) into a jar of fuel, does it blow bubbles or reduce the level in the jar when on?

Cheers

Which pump are you using? VN onwards pumps are supposed to be submerged. I think from memory VK pumps use another pump in the tank to lift fuel.
Hope this helps.

Also check your wiring to the fuel pump has a good earth and the pump is getting a constant 12Volts, as electric pumps run off voltage, if the signal drops or is weak they only flow by the amount of voltage they have, eg. if its a 12v pump and its only getting 6v it will only flow at 1/2 its rate/psi.

Thanks for all the help guys! I think all it was it the pipes were around the wrong way! I get fuel flowing out of the input pipe if it isn't connected to anything but it coudn't get past the first regulator (silver thing on the drivers dide of the engine). If I hooked the pipes up to the opposite way - to the other regulator (bigger gold coloured one right next to the throttle body) the fuel goes straight through the injector rails and right through the return line back to the tank... All good now I hope! Cheers :D

Edit forgot to mention: not sure what the fuel pump is off but it has a big metal 'T' sort of bracket it's mounted to, has a regulator connected with a pipe an inch or so from the actual pump, I think it's a bosch brand for memory. The polarity is displayed on the pump terminals so I know that side of things is ok.

that sounds like a VK EFI pump, if so the other thing connected to the bracket is a fuel damper, it basically smooths out the fuel flow out of the pump ....after that there should be a fuel filter which in the VK was attached to the floor from memory ...

How many regulators have you got? Should have 1 reg and 1 fuel dampener on the rails.

He has what looks like a VK or VL fuel pump and damper. The engine has extruded aluminium fuel rails with a damper on the inlet (left) side and the reg on the right.

Sorry, yeah I am pretty new to efi engines so I wasn't sure of the difference between the dampers and the regulators!
