For what it's worth, I ran a Crane CCH304 in my 308 some years back, and I'd certainly use one again! This cam is one step bigger than a 286 in the crane catalog.
Running 10.5 comp, iron heads with L34 valves and a pretty average port job, Torker manifold, 650 dp, and tri-y headers this combo made 361 flywheel hp at 5750rpm.
I ran this with a Glide, 3700 stall and 3.7 diff gears in an LX sedan.
It was very easy (and fun!) to live with on the street and even delivered reasonable mileage on long trips.
It ran a slightly disapointing 12.9 @ 106/107 mph. I believe a 3 speed trans would have suited this combo much better and would have delivered mid 12's easily.....

I just scored this same cam to replace the H276 in the 355 from my LJ GTR thats going into my LC. I'm going to run a TH350, 2500rpm stall and 3.50 geared 9". I don't know whether to run a single plane torquer or dual plane Performer manifold but I've got both so I'll see how it goes. I've also got a modified 600 d/p that flows 675cfm and a 750 vac sec so I'll try a few combos. The heads are well ported ex-VK Brock black with L34 size valves, YT rollers, etc. I'll put up some times when its sorted.

I will be very interested to see the outcome as i am running a performer and would like to know if a switch to an open plenum would be worthy.

Yeah HRV74, i agree .

I put the same motor behind a glide it it felt slow off takeoff compared to the 3spd traumatic .

To run a glide you really need a lot of torque which a standard storke 308 doesnt have .

My 286 304 combo went 12.65 @109mph in my red LH.
Had trimatic with a 3800 stall, 3.5`s and bald 18`s
Best mph on the night was 111. It had absolutely no tune up whatsoever running rich as f*ck

I did a 13.2 @ 108 mph, 308 + 60, 286, performer, edelbrock carb, standard heads with L34 valves, pro comp ignit, L34 extractors,T10, 3.7 lsd, slicks, but bogged down big time off the line. Motor was as I bought it 3yrs before, no tuning, same spark plugs.

Digging up an old post but i need to know.
Do you get consistent times when racing a hyd camshaft?
Someone suggested to me the lifters may pump up and give inconsistent runs, so i ask people who have done it before.

weve played around with a burnout/streeter years ago that was
running a 308 red motor with the 286 and a edelbrock torker manifold, mildly worked L34 heads with double valve springs and yella tera roller rockers,
flat tops and a9l rods .
this et up was killa for the bucks that went into it!!!
ran consistent 12,s and went killa in burnouts(for back then)
if i remember rightly we used the anti pump up lifters and i dont recall ever having dramas,

we latyer played with the 288 solid cams and the big money heads and got the 308,s
running low 11,s all day long and screamed em to like 7500 rpm all day long that set up was killa for the burnout comps and if ya added a bottle of giggle gas to it we got one to run a 10.60

for any oldschool adelaide revheads that was when perform brokers was open and ya could go buy and sell ya second hand performance parts from joe!!

the good old days lol!! when ya could cruise ya 11 second streeter and not get defected :spoton:

v8 slr it is not true as i have ran a 12.10 at both calder and heathcote and on a bracket run dialed a 12.25 and ran a 12.27 so they are all good and consistant
