hi, my mate has a lj speedway car and to cut a very long story short (as we rolled it last weekend) we are going to update the stub axles and brakes and hubs,( as we think the disc broke away from the hub then locked up and sent us into the wall) we have been told a few diffrent setups but from no one that has actually done it. we were told that hq steering arms fit or something we are looking to change stud pattern aswell to hq or commie? is their anyway that we can put hq stubaxles on it or just the hub as then we can use hq rims i think hq brakes fit on aswell but i dont know how?we already run a comie rack shortened up. also it is only a speedway car so we dont need to get it registered.

Any help would be great.

Thanks Hayden

You can make your own shorter steering arms similar to what my brothers LJ stockcar has. Being shorter steers it quicker. Playing with stockcars & fabricating your own stuff to make it all work (known as pulling a dodgey in the real world :tease: ) is great fun.

hayden,

from the research i have done for my car, you use the standard torana steering arms on the hq stubs, hq rotors and hq callipers. ball joints are the same so you keep the torana ball joints. also cause your using the torana steering arms you dont hae to tweak the rack.

looking at the hz front stubbs i hae sitting in my shed atm, the steering arms are gigantic. about twice as long as the torana ones. apparently the torana ones bolt up but i havnt tryed this yet.

feel free to correct me anyoen as i havnt pulled anything apart to start playing yet.

get the girlock cast iron callipers. these are supposed to be the hot setup

im pretty sure speedway pete is running the 1" bore lj master cyl yes?? to be honest i didnt pay much attention. if so the front brakes will work fine....

and i must say guys, i changed the wheel on that side wiht the broken disk after the crash, the carnage to the disk was darn impressive.

D.J., i beleive speedway pete is running the std master cyl. we worked out what happened we got forced into the fence in the 2nd heat and bent the stub axle this inturn put strain on the disc and after that pete was saying the brakes were draging so in the feature the disc could not handle the stress of the bent stub and broke free from the hub thus locking the wheel and putting us into the fence. there is some photos up on the web now but you were there. so basickly we just put hq stubs on, hq brakes on , hq hubs and run torana steering arms that bolt onto stub axle?

Thanks Hayden

i believe so. the hq disk and hub are one unit, unlike torana where there seperate. the hub is built into the disk.[

i have the whole setup, disks callipers stubs and even steering arms (which wont help you) sitting on the shed floor and wont be using it for a couple of months (got special disks on order).

i'll gladly throw them in the boot of the torana and bring them your way on the weekend so you guys can play with them on speedway petes car. just bring them back next time you guys are heading my way. and if they do work speedway pete can probably keep the disks, there nearly new and i wont be needing them as far as i can tell atm, but i'll get back to you on that one :P.

saves buying stuff if your not sure what will work. plus that way you guys can find out any problems for me :D
