Gday,
Just wondering how other people have set there ignition timing/retard on there turbo setups. I have mine set up with standard initial on normal points type with the vacuum line going between the turbo and the head(intake manifold). This way i get full vacuum advance on over-run/cruise  and when boost comes up :D I loose vacuum advance(retards). Centrifugal adv is set normaly. Dont know if this is the optimum setup but seems to work well.

How does everyone else do theres?

Cheers!

There was a Lucas? electronic ignition controller on the market about 10 yrs ago that I liked the look of..but from memory it was $1500...it was dash adjustable (not that you need that) but it ran 2 maps..in boost and no boost.

I think I will see how a "dumb" system works before I get a "smart" one.

I saw a pic recently (Dave720??) that had an enlarged module where the vac advance went..it vacuum advanced and boost retarded.

mine set up is simple . but cost $$ its a MSD/BTM boost timing master,... its got a control box to adjust the amount of timing in relation to boost !
it bleeds timing off as boost risers ,,the msd has boost pressure censor built into it
with manifold presrure hose running to it ,also runs dual stage rev limiter
all running of a re,graphed vk dizzy advance locked at around 28 deg advance!

aftermarket efi computer, using dizzy as a cas and the ecu to lower the timing on boost.

I was gonna ask about that. I never knew Lucas made anything good.

Danswheelie, are you sure you have a vac pod that also retards ? These are relatively rare, I have only found them at Scorcher and they cost heaps. Unfortunately they fail easily too with any reasonable boost. I gave up on them and just run a locked dizzy. Seems to work fine.

Gday Struggler.
When I say it retards. It only backs the advance back to no Vacuum advance not actually back from 0 vac. A comptuer set-up is the obvious way to go. Im currently looking at graphting an injection system from a VL I have acces to. Ill keep all you guys posted. Thanks for all the ideas lads - keep em coming!

Could you pick a worse system than a VL/RB nissan system?

You should buy shares in ACA..maybe you will get Crank Angle Sensors cheaper.

i had a talk to martie with the big hole in block turbo 202 his was injected with wolf 3d
mangement , and was running MSD6a hooked up through a hall effetcs EB ford 6 dizzy with the vk dizzy bottem welded to it.. he just maped his own ignition curve
on the lap top ! this is what lead to the demise of the engine !as when the big turbo when on he thourght the old ignition map would do :fool: and only tunned for fuel . lol

Thanks for all the ideas lads!
Dave720 - Sounds like Martie had the right idea though. Do it yourself, make mistakes and learn. Im sure the next one will be top notch! Shame it was such an extreme lesson!

Cheers!
