Does the rubber gear stick boot - L34 style - go over the carpet with its screws showing or under the carpet with screws hidden? And is it the smaller boot size or the larger one. Apparently there are two sizes to choose from. Thanks

For an L34 you put the carpet down first, then the rubber boot over the carpet, then the steel retainer plate (its black) goes over that with the 4 bolts thru it, bolts are commonly replaced with self taper screws over the years.

The hold down plate is on top with the screws showing, I put the carpet between the plate and the rubber flange on the bottom of the boot with the screws going through the carpet.

Originally the screws used were metal threads, about M5, with speed nuts pushed on to the corners of the hole in the tunnel.
