hii guys
im just rinnin the good old stock 202 with an aussie 4 speed and stock diff, just came back form a lenthy drive along the highway and came to a conclusion,
with the engine screaming at 3000-3500 rpm it gets pretty loud.....
and decided to take a change.

if u had the choice between a supra or a celica 5 speed box which would you choose?

ive been reading the forums but was just wonderin if anyone could give me an idea on what sort of costs and mods are involved?

it will need a reco when i buy it if anyone knows somewhere good for that sort of thing to

cant wait for some replies
cheers Jazza

Celica will be the cheaper option from around $250 plus. Supra box is the heavy duty box but uses mostly the same parts prolly starting round $400 for a complete second hand kit.
there are a couple of pit falls with buying seperate parts if you don't know exactly what you need so either buy one complete or spend the cash and buy a complete conversion kit from someone like Dellows automotive who will supply you with a checked/overhalled (read not recoed) box.
Little things like shifter location and clutch mechanisms do make a difference.
Giving your location will help with people giving you their prefered gearbox rebuilders.

You can reuse your flywheel, pressure plate (in most cases) clutch mechanism (pending bell housusing, and personal preference) and possibily tailshaft without shortening.
Gearbox Xmember will need modifying and then it pretty much bolts in.

If buying a second hand box try rotating it and selecting the gears, nothing should feel rough or grindy.

Hey thanks for the quick reply.

ive been reading since posting and i can see wat u mean, couple mm here couple mm there.

i can get either box for $50 thats y i contemplate the conversion, but i just remembered, for $200 i can get a vh with an aussie 5 speed and switch the boxes over, i read they bold straight in almost, and i just got a new flywheel clutch and pressure plate so would the aussie be the easier option do u think?

My general area is Parramatta, Sydney.

Thanks Jazza.

My 202 cruises in 5th at 50mph, with a 3.36 banjo at 2500rpm i think.

There is NO aussie 5 speed, correctly i.di the VH set up before laying down the hard earnt cash.
from what i've heard of the commy 5 speed they arn't worth shit compared to a celica 5 speed.

whoops my bad, still learning i just assumed...

its all friends offers so its not like ill never see the money again but i get ya..

i just read somewhere... 1 sec,
Quote from another forum:

("the VC-VK 5speeds fit with no worries (i have done this conversion). They are not much bigger than your average M20/21 in size, i didnt change anything at all except tailshaft yoke to gearbox. Everything else bolted up to my stock standard UC... No new spigot bush, no new clutch, no tailshaft mods, no crossmemeber mods...")

its just a daily driver its not like the box will be taking hard work and i just wana make the long distance drives an ease.
but celica would still be the choice?

If the commy 5sp is a straight swap with the yoke and you getten it for peanuts then you ain't got nothen to loose in my eyes.
Go the commy box.
Most gear boxes in the average streeter usually die from driver abuse anyway so if you driving a stocker like a stocker it will prolly last forever.

if i were you and the t5 is that easy to convert i would go for that. your looking for an overdrive obvioulsy to bring the revs down on the highway and the celica box can hardly do that for you, it has bugger all. the t5 has a much bigger overdrive fits in with less effort and should be extremely easy to find.
thats my 2 cents.
