I was told the tyre on my spare rim (LC GTR) is the original spare. I was wondering if they came with Olympic Wide-Ride 70, B70H13 tyres with a red band in a deep groove on one sidewall only. Cheers for any info. :spoton:

G,day Smelvin -

I note the message in your signature. So here's a bit of info. from an " old aged " one.

I believe you have an original equipment tyre there.
My 1971 Bathurst LC had those Olympic B70 H13 Wide Ride tyres as original equipment
minus the red sidewall stripe.
They were described as a nylon cross ply and they had marginal performance at best.
In those days you tossed 'em out and fitted 195/70-13 radials - Bridgestone RD102s or my favourites Kleber V10GTS ( if you could afford Bob Janes asking price ).

The redwall stripe was a GTR orig. equipment thing as far as I know.
If you examine it closely you will no doubt find the sidewalls are significantly cracked and the tread rubber very hard. OK for show but don't drive on it if you believe in longevity.

Cheers JR.

As wingnut said you have an original fitment tyre there. On the side wall it should say Olympic then the brand symbol then wide ride 70 then further round a stamped in code then nylon premium then b70h13 then ply rating 4 then tubeless. These are pretty rare and look great in the boot.

Thanks for the confirmation guys. The tyre is actually in really good condition and I'm surprised I can't see any cracks in it as I've seen quite a few cracked tyres alot younger than this one. Still don't plan to be driving on it though, and yes it does look great in the boot. I had a guy with an XU1 try to buy it a couple of years ago and he only wanted it to put in his boot when his car was on display. I think this one will stay with the car. :spoton:

Hi

I was told by someone who should know - that no XU-1 came out with "red band" tyres.

Just a thought.

My car is a GTR. I think the guy with the XU1 that tried to buy it was going to turn the tyre on the rim so you couldn't see the red band when it sat in the boot. :D
