i am confused. are the lc gtr steering wheels wood grain or plastic (outer rim)

i have a lc gtr wheel but it has a plastic outer rim (black). now - all the ones i have seen on ebay are a wood grain rim - i guess hence the cracks.

i am considering selling mine as this here fetched well over $1K. http://cgi.ebay.com....1QQcmdZViewItem

but that was for the wood grain ^^

can anyone confirm to me whats with the plastic and woodgrain? is the wood only from the monaro's?

Crazy money for good parts now aye. I'm glad my car came with it's wheel. I remember about 15 years ago looking for an LX wheel (SLR style) and turning my nose up at several of these early wheels in the hunt. Should have put them in the wardrobe... And my LC GTR 6/71 black rimmed wheel. :spoton:

From what I have seen it would have been early 70's that the change to the new black wheel occured. Maybe aroung the time the ADR plates were introduced.

I wish my car came with an original steering wheel, and wheel dress trims for that matter. Two items that are going to be expensive to get.

Hi there we have a 1969 car, and yep has original wheel and its Black, speaking with original owners son and he never recalls having a Woodgrain wheel

Hmmmm

One of those things maybe parts bin was drying up and they started fitting newer wheels some things you just never know, I know that with other makes too

Thanks

Mine is a 11/69 gtr fro victoria,it came with the woodgrain steering wheel, all the cars that I have seen from 1970 onwards had the black wheel but it could have just been a case of whatever was in the parts bin at the time & what state the car was built in.I could only get my hands on a NOS black wheel so I ended up putting that on it as the woodgrain one cracked.

Hi

I had a '69 LC GTR. It was 18 months old when I bought it and it had the black vinyl steering wheel.

I have mates who had GTRs and Xu1s since 69/70, Adelaide bought and have not seen brown wheel on any, only HK Monaros
If some one wants to sell a brown (woodgrain) wheel my son in law needs one for his HK Monaro, which currently has black one fitted.

Someone must have changed it, all 1970 cars had black rimmed wheels with the stainless outer, my 11/1970 Adelaide built GTR has the black wheel as fitted from new. :D

As we know that speaking with original owners son the car is as new with this wheel, so where do we stand??

im keen to know others opinions on this too. my 8/70 xu1 came with a sportline wheel which ive removed as ive got a woodgrain orig type for it. it would look better as a black rim tho as the wood look is the only brown bit in the cockpit & doesnt match anything. could i / should i alter it with black etch??
