Hi everybody,

I hope this post is in the right spot. I was just wondering if anyone could offer me some advice on my steering rack... or lack of.

I took mine out of my lc gtr and apparently it was too far gone to be reco'd. So I was just wondering, can I use a rack out of any lc or lj ? Or is the gtr one different ?

Just incase anyone knows where I could get one to suit that would be fantastic too :)

Thanks :)

~Carlie

Hmm..

Whats exactly is wrong with mine... Well
1. I think its still at the reco place that I took it to and probably at the tip now.
But before I took it out it had a lot of play in it. I was told it needed to be reco'd but I just do what Im told... Honestly, I dont really know.

This is all getting a bit too hard for me.

For the earlier post, Im in Melbourne, which I am pretty sure comes up under my post but I could be wrong, though Adelaide is a bit far away. Thanks anyway.

I paid $260 for a reco rack from Nation Power Steering a few years ago. Mine had the same drama... too much play.

You might want to go and get it as Rares at least are change over.
Nation Power Steering might want to do up yours.

Maybe you should buy a hyundies or a civic :tease:
No-one ever said life was gonna be easy!
Hang in there, don't give up. Consider this a learning curve, don't throw anything out until you're sure you've got it sorted! I also learned this the hard way.

Carlie,
just so you know and so the reco mob that you took the rack to don't try to take advantage, These racks ar infinately rebuildable.
EVERY wear part can be replaced. the only thing that will render one useless is if the housing is cracked.
The internal bushes can be replaced, as can the bearings, the cups can be remachined and reclaimed. Shims are avaliable and the inner tie rods are servicable.
Call them and demand your rack back! At least then you have 1 for exchange purposes, otherwise you are going to get stuck with a "core" charge at exchange.
BTW: It is no fun having slop in your rack, so get it fixed ASAP!!! sorry couldn't help myself! :D

Cheers Greg..

From a legal point, until YOU say to throw it out, it is YOUR property. So if they said it is shot and they threw it away, you have the right to demand it back or have it replaced.

As Greg has said, they can be rebuilt and a reputable repairer would know that.

LC & LJ racks are the same. Check local wreckers, they are quite often there.

But by all means get your old one back.

Ok :) I will go get mine back, seeing as it's the popular option. I did not realise they were or could be change-over items. Hope it's still there.

Thanks everyone,
~Carlie
