Need to get a manifold for early RED heads, been looking and there is Edelbrock Performer & Torker, Redline Hi-Winder and I think Harrop makes one as well.

Engine is 10:1 flat top 308, solid camshaft 240/240, L34 heads ported, roller rockers etc.

I really want to keep it under standard bonnet as well, no scoops

Have been leaning towards a Performer and adding a spacer if its holding back top end.

Car is 4 speed manual with 3.55:1 rear, just a streeter.

I don't think Redline Hi-Winder is avliable for a red, only VN style. Could be wrong.

Here is a few more to think about.

-Procrap have a new stripmaster look a like.
-The Peter Michaels Stripmaster
-Duggan, rare and no longer made
-Weiand Excellerator (I have one, not as good as the Duggan, but better the other low rise single plains, also no longer made)
-LYNX, same casting as Weiand
-Torque Power (Good luck trying to get him to sell you one for a 308, they are more designed for a 355 or 383, and are a high port manifold suit YT Dash 3 heads)
-Brain freeze now :fool:

FYI years ago I had a Weiand Accelerator and my car ran 12.60 every day. I pulled it off and refitted a stock HQ manifold with a squarebore adapter. The next time out it ran 12.2. No other changes.

For your combo you can't go past a Performer. more torque than the Torquer everywhere and same HP with the right spacer.

wow that an interesting result, i guess theres no substitute for trial and error, i have a stripmaster but i will be trying a few different manifolds just in case.

Edelbrock torker should still fit your carby and air cleaner etc under the bonnet but it is a mid range to high rpm manifold wereas the performer is a more of a down low to mid rpm manifold i cant recall the exact rpm range they specify of hand

Torker is single plane and Performer is dual plane, thats the main difference so the Torker is designed for the higher rev range whereas the Performer will perform well right through the range with a bit of a sacrifice up top

Anything up to 400hp on a 308 I say stick with the Performer... Add a 1" phenolic spacer if necessary.

Cheers all, actually brought a new Performer last Friday.

Thats my plan run the performer and if need be add a spacer for a little top end, well see how it goes.

How did the Performer go on your combo, much of a difference in the power?
