To original spec or custom? I had my Saas seats in my LJ retrimmed in black vinyl about 3 years ago for $500. To get the doortrims done as per original you would probably need at least $500 to get new ones made... Might give you some idea anyway.

Hi

Yep - depends on the exact work to be done, but don't expect too much change from $2000 (and that is for standard black vinyl). For my XU1 it was $600 for trims, $1250 for seats.

keep an eye out for a complete interior maybe, like ebay or the trading post or your local paper. might be easier than getting a complete new set made up.

got a sewing machine? spotlight vip card? cant be too hard. pull apart existing ones and have a go. thats all a trimmer would be doing.

i had actually given it some thought but the situation of me spending lots of money on materials only to waste many hours to produce something well below standard kept springing into mind!

scaringy enough, its not that hard, if you have a clue and an OLD singer sewing machine (i'm lucky enough to have 3 one being the old pedal one) those suckers will sew threw a hunk of 4X2, start with something easy like a motorbike seat and see how you go, i done my seats (though they look a bit shabby now, few rips and rubs, but ya get that after 5 years of abuse AKA: children) and they came up trumps. Another good tip is to rub candle wax on the foot of the machine to stop it gripping to the vinyl.

And l could sell you the material, the more you buy the cheaper it would be....

On the point of the sewing machine, it depends on the type of machine you have, l remember many years ago l used my mum's domestic singer to sew seats..busted about 10 needles and just about burnt the motor out, still managed to get it done !!

A lot easier with a industrial sewer and a walking foot, where theres a will there is a way anything is possible

HEy,
I know its a little different, but i jsut got my back seat, door cards (front) rear quater sections rooflining carpet for the boot floor in the hatch, pretty much everything but the 2 front seats. I had this all made up for me special different to stnadard more custom i paid the guy $350 at the begining of the job and he cam in under budjet so i let him keep the extra 80 or 90 buks for a good job.

Was done by a pro trimmer too. All vinyl excepet carpet in the hatch

Cheers
Tim

seems like u got a good deal tim. i'm going to need new door trims, front seats and back seat (possibly roof lining if my funds will allow) car already has new carpets. i'm hoping it wont set me back too much, will do some shopping around and if i cant get a good price i'll give it a shot myself i suppose!

Hey Lexa,

Here is a thaught, Get the material from boomfunk. un pick the seats, and all the seams. then cut out all the new peices and have a trimmer sew it for you, I bet if you got chummy with a trimmer say asked for a day of work exp or somthing he/she would do it for next to nothing, then just slip them on and wire them back to the seat. kindergarten stuff, like cut and paste!

it would be worth a go if you were in need of trim and funds are tight.

for the moment i have put the reupholstering to the back of my mind but when it does come up again you've pretty much hit the nail on the head for what i'm going to do. turns out my sisters boyfriends brother (i know i hate it when people say that sort of stuff aswell!) is an upholsterer. or wateva u would call them. so i should be able to work it out quite cheaply!

i did my own interior...came out great. didnt' do the seats though, payed a fortune for them.

keep in mind, the diference in price between leather and vinyl isn't much....if i was ever to consider a complete vyn retrim i'd look at leather to...and probably opt for the latter...
