GDay guys,
just a quick question. ive done a v8 conversion b4 on a lj 4dr.
a mate of mine just bought a lj 2dr 1760 4 cyl and he's thinking about a V8 conversion. Is there much difference b/w the 4 cyl and 6 cyl models in regards to undertaking such a conversion? Are engine bays same size?
Any help would be great!

If you want info on putting a V-8 in a J go here:

That is for a 6 cylinder body, you may find a 4 cylinder body very problematic, they are a different car from the firewall foreward apart from the obvious mechanical differences.

the outside edge of rails are in same position but the 4cyl rails are about half the thickness (box section) so distance between rails is greater than 6cyl
would need to alter for strength and mounting 6 cyl front end
obviously the front and rear suspention is different as is rear mounting

Hi,
How can i tell if my LJ was 4 or 6 cyl?
When i got it it had a unorigonal 173, but had a 4 cyl manual inside, previous owner did not know much about it, has no plates left on it. it was a NZ new car, i thought only 6 cyl torries were imported to NZ? I also am working towards a 308.

Thanks
Steve

The sixes have a pointy nose front as the fours are flat eg. front bar looks like rear

Its not the Ugly 4cyl! haha

A V8 will go in there very nicely! Should go half alright as well... hehe
