My hand/foot brake isnt working anymore in my LH.
I pulled one out of an LX but to do so i pretty much had to remove the entire bottom half of the dash and smash away the heater box in order to get to the massive bolt at the back.
Now its time to put it in my car and im wondering if anyone has changed one before and has any hints or tips to make the job easier.
Cheers

Did you consider replacing that foot unit with a proper handbrake off a UC?
I reckon someone here has done it and can give you all the info on what to do? It's something I have often thought about doing.
Sorry I cant be more helpful on this conversion.
I often have a snigger at a "Muscle car' with a footbrake Handy as an ashtray on a motorbike esp when competing. lol Try doing a handbrake turn with one in a motorkhana
Cheers

I think there was a sticky on the old site about this mod (foot to hand).
Would it be possible to reserect this as i was considering the change myself.
Cheers.

Jesus, sounds like you broke it rather than fixed it ---> smashed the heater box???
The most common fault in these is that the grub screw in the pull handle over time and lots of spinning around the shaft works like a plumber's pipe cutter and cuts the end of the release shaft off.
Post people think, not a problem, I'll just screw the handle on more and tighten up the grub screw again........WRONG.
What happens when you to the above is that the release rod is always in the release position and the handle prevents it going back to allow the ratchets to engage (there are two ratchets, obviously one is a safety), i.e. the ratchets won't engage and you can't put your park brake on. Either that, or it only just engages and you get torries rolling down hills into trees and other objects because the handbrake intermittently disengages by itself (ratchets not fully engaged).
Now there is slight variation in the release rod between the LH and LX, but all the holes etc are there for fitting either, just the spring goes in a different spot from memory.
My car had this common fault when I got it, and my first LH had the problem (only ten years old back then), and I found an LX one, bought the whole mechanism and just ended up using the release shaft.
Hope that all makes sense.

Damn people annoying me while I'm in the middle of an edit, does the world have any morals anymore???
Anyways:-
The end of the rod on one is L shape and the other hooked, but other than that it fits and functions fine.
The moral of the story, "DON'T OVERTIGHTEN YOUR KNOB!!!".

Of course it's possible but you would need to carry a set of cables in the boot so you could swap it around when you want to.

Always wondered if a peg on the handbrake release would work for drifting. That and a third leg so you can still operate the clutch.
