hi
i am having a problemwith my 253 where it will not rev over 4 grand, the motor has been completely rebuilt, has a mild cam, Yella Terra spec heads just machined up and put on, holden 4 barrel manifold, brand new rebuilt quaddie
all these things are garrented

my only issue is that i got a "rebuilt trimatic" well thats what the guy told me ( sort of mate trust worthy tho) the trimatic shifts fine and does not seem to slip, i was just wondering what would be a possible factor in it not reving...

i was thinking stall converter might be a issue, is it possible?

the trimatic appered to be in very good nick as i was told fluid was nice red color not burnt. the car will chirp shifting from first to second no problems.

car is running a 3.36 diff could this be the issue?

this is my first auto torrie the rest have been manual, ( i am kinda kicking my self now should have gone manual.....)

help!

yeah thought so, just had a slight thought that it might be a gearing issue.... ok so nit the diff....

i have had two electronic dissy in the car same thing both cam out off fine cars perfect working order, so i doubt it's spark.

mm what else, i am leaning towards a gearbox/convertor issue but i dont know much about it at all, and i dont want to fork out the cash to get the convertor replaced and then have the same issue, just thought somone on here might be a bit more cluey about trimatic set ups...

Does it rev over 4k in Park/Neutral - start with basics and eliminate things. For a motor to work properly everything has to be installed and adjusted correctly. This means camshaft, ignition timing, fuel supply/flow (blocked fuel filiter??), blocked or restricted exhaust, secondarys not opening, float level too low. Just a few items to check?

ok
timing is about 11-12deg adv,
brand new fuel pump
brand new fuel filter
genie extractors, new 2 1/2 inche twin pipe system with cross over pipe

dont know how to check float level of a quaddie

( quaddie was complete ly rebuilt buy a carby shop in melb, he also and tuned it as well)

i think it is getting a bit to much fuel and it's running slightly rich....

new leads
new plugs...

i am a bit suspect on the tune

also it's a fresh motor just been rebuilt, i have only put about 500-700km on if that............

Check the operation of the mechanical advance in the dizzy. I know a dude who had a similar problem, turned out his dizzy shaft was seizing up.

Is it breaking down over 4K when revved hard but revs over that if done slowly? mine did that because it wasn't getting proper 12v at the coil, the coil had been setup as if it had a points dissy (pink wire) and not the HEI

Is the balancer new? If the outer has parted company your timing could be anywhere.

Check the static timing on No 1 cylinder.

What actually happens at 4000rpm? Misfire? Backfire? Brief deceleration?

i have done the 12v mod, to the dizzy so it is getting the full 12v,

at 4grand it just will not rev anymore... does not missfire or backfire at all

Who done the final assembly.
If the springs are that soft you would probably be able to compress them with your hands.
Dont forget to start with the easy things like dizzy and coil.

this reminds me of a story a freind was telling,, back in70 his mate owned a car yard and traded a brand new v6 ford capri well 4month old the guy who owned it was over it because ford wouldnt or couldnt fix it. thay replaced every thing"
it had them stuffed :furious: this would not rev ofer 4000rpm he had it at every ford dealer in tasi and thay couldnt fix it ?
Well my friend was the mecanic for this guy who traded it and he stuffed around with it for a some time before thay put in up on the host and my mate grabed the gass axe and chopped the pipes off :tease:
it went straight too 7000rpm had a blocked muffler from factory  stuped ford

^ a simple check with a vacuum guage would tell you that along with timing and weak valve springs, a mechanic without one is as useless as tits on a bull.

look at senario 9, 10, 11 and 14 for an idea.
