I have a mate who has just purchased a VL ( V8 ) Commadore HSV.
His wife had refused to drive it due to smelling exhaust fumes. I checked it out last week and pulled the filter off and found the carby leaking excessive fuel.
Fixed the leaks , but I don't know a lot about those carby,s ( Think it's a Rochester carb) He has asked if he should just get a new carby or have the existing carby overhauled.
The carby has more vacuum lines on it than a bull can sh!! so changing it to a Holley I would think would be a nightmare.
So can anybody give me some advise.

Thanks Nick

Just have it reco by someone who knows what they are doing, stay away from the holley unless you going racing.

Maybe you should also check the boot, door and window seals as fumes can enter the car from there, especially through the boot. There are seals behind the taillights as well.

The HSV version of the VL is the Walkinshaw...
So It should have fuel injection...
A pic will clear it up.

Cheers Greg..

The 5.0 engined VL HSVs were fitted with carbies, only the 4.9L or 304 engined Walky was fitted with EFI, and that twin throttle manifold alone is now worth more than the rest of the car.

Sorry, I forgot about the SV88.......
So Holden actually sold a few SV88's????
That was that thing with the harbour bridge on it wasn't it?
Wonder how much (besides the badge)HSV was in that car?

Cheers Greg..

The SV88 was the blue car aimed more at Luxury, based on the Calais. I remeber the brochures having a car phone and a fax machine.

Ahhh, thats not correct, all Holden V8's were dropped from 5044cc to 4987cc when Australia became part of Group A racing in 1985. I can't remember the exact changeover date. Brock called it a 4.9L. Yes the block in a VL Walkinshaw is different to a standard Holden V8 block (four bolt mains being one difference) but the capacity is the same.

They made only 150 of them, and all were sold on release date.
They came out with the option of a mobile and fax machine!! ($7000!!!!!)

They have the Walky wheels, scheel leather/cloth trim, suspension done,
headers and brakes arnt standard.

Its nearly 20 year old but its so nice to drive and goes very well.

My understanding was the early VL performance cars (VL SS Group A) were the Brock/HDT jobs and they were a carby car. The HSV ones (VL SS Group A) were the Silver only, 304 Twin throttle body jobs.

But then there were a heap of different HDT/HSV VLs right?
