hi all

i lots of info on hq brakes but not much about it affects on offset, as my ultimate goal (for now) is to fit hq brakes with redrilled commonwhore pattern rotors on the fron of the LX in order to accomidate the BW disc brake diff on the rear, so i will probably run into an offset problem with the wheels. i recall Chopper mentioning about stock commo rims fouling on the front sway bar on full lock in the front of an lx. so if the HQ setup adds to the offset (ie pushes the brakes a bit further out towards the guard)*scratches head* then that might stop the wheels from fouling on the sway bar.....please shed some light.

cheers

On my LX, I used VK 4 wheel discs. With the Commodore front discs ( DBA 015 ) 15x6 Commodore steel rims and 225/50R15 tyres, the tyres rubbed on the swaybar close to full lock. With a change to 205/65R15 tyres, I think they then cleared OK. The HQ front discs will make matters worse, as they will make the rims sit in a further 11 MM each side. There are several different offsets for Commodore rims, ranging from +27 ( VP IRS rims ) to +43 ( what I used ). Have fun.

You may be better off using a VL turbo front disc ( DBA 017 ) machined down to HQ size ( 276 MM ). These are thinner than HQ discs, so if you are going to use the HQ calipers, the pads may fall out as they wear down.

However, if you are going to use HQ stubs, this alters the KPI by 2 degrees. This will tilt the top of the rim 2 degrees further inward. This could cause other problems with the inside edge of the rim fouling the top control arm. Trust me, there's not much room.

In short, if you intend on using HQ stubs on the front of an LH - UC and use 15" Commodore rims, you could run into trouble. HQ discs would not work in this application. If you wanted to use 16" rims, you would need to use Commodore front discs. However, a fitment test of a 16" rim and tyre would still be needed before you parted with any cash for rims as they still may foul.

Also remember if you want to use HQ stubs on a Torana, you will need an extra $297 for Harrop steering arms.

If you want to avoid all of these problems, spend $1100 or more at Hoppers Stoppers.

If part or all of this post doesn't make sense, ask amd I shall try again when I'm not so tired.

After I did the conversion, I discovered a clearance problem that was never fixed to a standard that I was happy with. I won't be revealing any more details on the conversion due to the potential problems that can arise.
