I'm about to re-plumb the fuel system in my car. It currently uses 1/2 inch braded lines installed by the previous owner. Problem is, they stink of fuel for days after running the car (I run ULP). I've been told this is because the lines I have are porous to some degree and 'breath' - hence the smell. Apparently this is a common problem with selecting the wrong hose for ULP cars. BTW I have checked for leakes and there are none!!

Now to my question: what products out there are available that don't breath, come in 1/2" and are suited to a high pressure EFI delivery system.

I remember seeing a type of blue aeroquip hose on Tiny's car that did a great job. - Tiny can u advise what it is / where I could get it from? Oh yeah, and I can't forget the braded line under Litre8 - Howard can u relinquish some details as to brand/spec/ where to get it?

Thanks guys
Alex

I use Earls braided line, find it pretty good, the problem you are facing is due to the age of the rubber, as it breaks down the vapours come thru, hence the smell.
The blue hose like Tiny has is probably the socketless hose? Care to confirm Tiny?

If getting braided, get good quality like the Earls, Aeroquip, Russel, Speedflow etc stuff that is made for EFI, burst pressures normally 250-350PSI and your only running 40-65psi dependtant of what EFI motor.

Dont buy the super cheap braided stuff for low psi, thats when you'll be getting vapour fumes.

Mine is rubber fuel line, but I don't have the problems you are describing, but then again, it's not 1/2" either. Also running Premium Ethanol 10%, which is suppose to be even harder on the rubber/alloy components, as ethanol is a (insert forgotten word, cleans, slightly acidic agent, etc.).

I use all speedflow gear these days - but the other top brands are good too. I mainly go speedflow because I like their nice bends on their fittings compared with earls's.

Those Speedflow braided hoses(depending on size) actually have burst pressure in the range of 2,000 to 5,000 psi according to their catalog and yeah only being used to 60psi.

I would actually put my money on the fact your LH does not have a charcoal canister on the fuel breather pipe as to why you have the fuel smell - this is common on cars pre charcoal canisters.

I have also been told by some places that the braided lines with rubber internals will eventully break down with fuel in them (was told this after fitting all of mine).

They reckon'd the teflon inner stuff was the only totally imprevious type but then again - it was not the sort of place I would take my car to be worked on. You hear a lot of funny stuff over the years.

I know a heck of a lot of people using the regular braided line for their fuel systsems for years with no problems.

I only use earls because I get a 40% list with our account.

I use Speedflow, and Aeroquip hoses. The stuff you want for unleaded is the 444 spec hose from Aeroquip, but its not cheap, retails at approx $33/metre. Better bet is to run the alloy tubing, A Russell 25' roll is about $85.

Alternatively if you want to keep the braided look you'll need the 200 series teflon braided hose... Hope you've got a healthy bank balance for that stuff tho!

Thanks guys!

Bank balance is no problem, and I my brother is in the mining supply business, so I was going to ask him to source me some of the right spec stuff at a (hopefully) much cheaper price - hence I'm after acurate brands / product lines so I can tell him the correct stuff to get.

Is the Aeroquip 444 the blue hose?
Is the Aeroquip 444 spec hose ok to run the full length of the car? Is there any advantage in doing so as apposed to running alloy tubing in the stretch under the car?

Oh yeah, and who makes the 200 series teflon braided hose? - is that an aeroquip product too?

thansk again guys
