Gidday Peter

was only thinking of you guys the other day, will send you an email to update the family adventure.

I see that you have had a sale up there, does that mean the 'special one' is finished? Some pics on the site will be nice if that is the case.

(BTW, didn't GMH coin the phrase "To Fly" when they named the Torana). :D

Kind Regards

Andy

I was just wondering....Reading above. If a head has H252 on it does that make it a XU1 head?
There is one for sale over here and the numbers are:
2815843 h252.
Cheers.

2815843 = XU-1 HEAD
H252 = 25-8-1972 (Cast)

The 2815843 makes it an XU-1 head !!!!!!!!!!!

I will second that cast date for the list. G30 is the date on my 2/71 car.

Hi meanmachine72

XU-1 Head Cast Dates

E 140 (No 2815843) (XU-1 cast into head)
E 210
G 30
G 60
G 80
G 90
A 281
A 291
M 21
E 172
H 252
L 32
C 233
20 F3
27 F3

There seems to be a lot of dates during July '70 but that makes sense because GMH would have been gearing up for the soon to be released XU-1. Perhaps there are other XU-1 head cast dates during July '70?

Surely there was a casting between the A291 & the M21 ! There's a 10 month gap for christ's sake, there would have to be a casting run done if only just for warranty, parts , race teams etc......

Why is it so hard to find a M21 head when there's an abundance of 73 heads that i know of ? And what head did the CK block use ? surely not a A291 !

Just my 2c's

I thought that the same thing Dave, however maybe holden cast a truckload of A281 & A291 heads for the upcoming cars.

Maybe they had no need to cast anymore in that time to fullfil orders

just a thought

By Jan 1971, the XU-1 was assumed to be a fixture for at least the next full year. With January being a quiet time in production they probably thought it was economically sensible to cast a large batch of heads at the foundry for the future year's run of cars.

nothing good about that head my freind, just another 202 head with a december cast date 71, would suit a early 72 lj gtr, and would be worth about 300bills.

Hi Bazza and John Gong...i need to correct myself about the list thats being complied here...
I stated earlier that that i had seen a G80 head, i have tracked that car down and it has a G30 head on it..sorry for any confusion as the 8 and 3 do look similar as "old eyes do us wrong"

Hi

G90 = July 9th 1970. That would be appropriate for an 8/70 built XU-1.

Cheers

For anyone who does not know where the 'XU1' casting on the E14 0 dated head is:

Posted Image

Posted Image

As indicated above the E21 0 cast-dated head is the first XUI head with the 2815843 Number

This Head also has XU1 cast in a similar area to the E14 0 head

I have an E140 head with the XU1 cast into the head. The 2815843 is stamped onto the pad where it is normally cast.

My 186X motor and this head was rebuilt by Ian Tate. He confirmed that it was no doubt an XU1 head although he could not recall seeing one before.

It belongs to my Sept 70 XU1. A sister to my Sept 70 GTR.

Hi John

That's good to know - I think that generally it is felt that the E 14 0 castings don't have the Holden part number.

Cheers

Bazza
