Hi XU1 Gurus

Is there anything significant about XU1 head P/N 2815843 Date Code H252. It is just that I have seen a couple of old references on the net where people were trying to obtain a head with these numbers.

Thanks

Bazza

bazza , this date code is 25th day(25) , 8th month (H) 72(2) xu1 .

generally for august to november 72 cars including the 72 bathurst .

Hi 830hp

Thanks - that explains it. Both references were to people looking for a head for their "Bathurst cars".

It appears then that all of the late '72 XU1s had the same head. That number is what my 10/72 has but mine is not a Bathurst.

Thanks

I have learnt with the heads that the usual within 3 months of build date does not apply.

Hi HG350

Ok?? What would a typical time frame be?

I guess my point is that it seems that there is no difference between the head on a 'Bathurst XU1" and a 'garden variety' XU1. As I understand, some block internals are different so I assumed the head would be also.

hg 350 will know but i belive that thay done only a certain number of
runs a year for these heads thay were not a continual cast thing like
blocks and other heads

this date head is on 2 bathurst 72 cars i have seen .

it is on my garden variety 11/72 and another 11/72 car i know of .

as i previously said they are GENERALLY on vehicles around these months.

however i do agree anything is possible with gmh due to there stockpile pickings.

This has been discussed before and not really clarified. As i have said before my lc xu1 CK car built 9/71 has a head cast date of A291 which is 29th january 1971.All CK cars that i have seen either have A281 or A291. I believe they made X amount of heads and then made more when they needed them. Hope i havent confused you all to much. :spoton:

Are there any differences between the heads made for the CK engine (A281 and A291) to that cast for the latter engines in the LJ series.

Hi 8d11p

From Fiv Antoniou' book - a Holden Service Letter 19-8-71

"CYLINDER HEAD: A new cylinder head assembly P/N 2822072 with reduced valve guide heights is used. The length of inlet and exhaust valve stems between valve head and key grooves are increased"

As this is a different P/N to the LJ XU1 head (2815843) I assume the latter was redesigned.

Sorry Bazza WRONG... All XU1 heads are 2815843..I do not know why those numbers are in that book or even in the parts catalogue. ALL XU1 heads are 2815843.They just have different cast dates as to when they were cast..

They are exactly the same head for early LC to late LJ....Exactly..

Cheers..Phil :spoton:

Thanks guys,

appreciate the reply,

BTW, before I go down the track of bolting on a A291 (fully revamped) onto a 2/73 JP block is there anyone who would like to swap relevant heads. (In order to match appropriate dates)

Regards.
