Hi guys

I was after some feedback regarding an idea I have been thinking about. It not only involves using cars for school formals or other events but also making the car available for a couple of hours for anyone that wants a ride in a muscle car. Do you think people would be interested in paying to be driven around in a muscle car?

I am based in Sydney. I intend to use my papaya torana (pic below) and also have access to five more flared V8 toranas, which are the following colours; barbados green, chrome yellow, red and ultra blue. I can also get hold of a Walkinshaw and 2 white ford GT replicas.

If you have any suggestions or are interested in going for a drive, respond here or pm me.

Thanks
nutboy

Its a good idea and would give a lot of people the opportunity to ride in a real car but insurnace will be your biggest hurdle. God knows what that would cost or the best way is to go about it

I do school formals for cash, done 3 or 4, and have another 5 booked for this year.

also did a mates wedding, but that was free.

i reckon its a very good idea, although i dont know how many people would pay, simply to be "Driven" round the streets. could be a bit boring.

insurance as Mondie said, insurance would kill it.

The rules probably vary from state to state but I suspect you would need private taxi plates if you have paying passengers. If the car was involved in an accident then you could be in for a legal and financial nightmare if you do not have the correct licence and insurance.

It is definately worth looking into, I would be interested in hearing the outcome.

I have a mate who had a Chev and he did weddings and i know he had to get special regerstration and had to get car checked by Vic roads (the Pits) and when they checked it they gave him a list of things to fix before he could use it for weddings

Its definitely illegal to use a car as a hire vehicle here in the ACT UNLESS you have a special hire car permit to do so.
Public liability etc makes life complicated these days not to mention local gov't needing to get in for their chop of the fees.

The Authorities here have been known to wait outside formals just to catch people.

I would assume the rules are much the same in any State.

One local car club I know of actually received an official warning for having a page on their web site showing club cars for hire - weddings, formals etc.

You can take the risk and all could be well with a nod and a wink until an accident occurs and then watch what happens to you ;)

Cheers

i dont actually advertise my car for hire, one lot actually approached me at toranafest last year, others are friends of friends. ow can they prove that youve hired out your car if they wait outside formals?? could be your brother and his mates or anything like that.

If your going commercial e.g Advertising in papers etc. Then insurance would have to be taken into account.

If you do a couple of cashies/word of mouth...and if anything were to happen...hopefully your passengers deny they paid you and you were just "giving them a lift".

Maybe advertise on here and start small...There definitely is a niche market out there for people hiring cars for weddings and shit. Probably end up cheaper than doing the whole limo thing too..

yeah sorry, I forgot I was not young enough to know all the answers and completely forgot the the Authorities who make the rules dont have a clue about what questions to ask if a person is pulled over or god forbid in an accident and they suspect the car may be used as a hire car...
My bad.

Why is it people when wanting to have a go at youth end up acting more immature then those they are trying to have a go at.

I was simply asking how they could tell the difference between family or friends and a paid job, sure there are ways, but ive been to 6 formals of my own and old friends (not driving but attending) and have never seen any drivers questioned. as i stated up the page i have also been a driver to a few aswell and have never seen anything happen.

im not saying it doesnt happen inACT but thats the first ive ever heard of anything. In an accident im sure it would also be a different story.

No need to get all pissed of and go half cocked about crap. Show some god dam respect no matter how old the person is. If i was to rant on about how some old fart thought he knew everything i would be stoned to death, but everyone seems to turn a blind eye when people use youth as an excuse to patronise.

If you took what i wrote the wrong way then bully for you, i was simply asking a question, based on my experiences. How many formals have you been to?

G'day,
If you want to get an idea on what's involved, maybe contact one of the guys who take people for rides on Harleys. Not sure of any off the top of my head but sure they are around, always on the getaway / weekender type shows.
I'm sure they would know what insurance etc is required.
i was in a wedding party many moons ago and we hired 3 or 4 SLR 5000's in Newcastle to drive us, that was cool as.
Cheers

you asked how can they tell. inspectors from transport departments visit these functions frequently just making notes of vehicles without the appropiate hire plates
do a couple of weddings and you will recieve notification of your vehicle has been observed working and this is in breech of your state third party insurance <passengers> by breaking this law it can mean fines of up to $10,000 plus loss of licence for up to five years .It is classed as fraud to your insurance company.
and should you have an accident and kill somebody you will need millions.!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the feed back guys. The reason I put it to the forum in recent months when we have taken the cars out for weekend cruises we have been approached by numerous people asking if we do weddings, formals and general cruises. If I were to go ahead with the venture it would all be above board. If Harleys can get insurance for hire I think a car would be a safer option so I dont think it would be an issue. In the past I have done various favors for friends kids and I have never seen RTA inspectors at formals and have never received a fine. I think the RTA has better things to do than sit at formals and write down number plates, they have problems catching unregistered and unlicensed drivers so I dont think formals would be a high priority.

Catching unregistered cars in NSW has just got easier. The authorites have stationary cameras with number plate recognition ability. Within seconds the camera has read the number and spits out a match if the car is unregistered or stolen.

Definetly a market, my sistet just paid $1000 for to XY GTs for her wedding and they only drove them to the churche then to the reception.

Not bad money for a few hours work. The guy we hired the GTs of has a heap of asorted musclecars for weddings and so on like 57 Chevs and many more.
