I've got an alloy case muncie m21 with hurst shifter in an LH torana. I got a new speedo cable and all was going well as after disconnecting two of the shift rods I managed to get the cable and gear into the gearbox. I then connected the shidt rods and have double checked them and they are back in correctly.

But now I cant select 1st gear as the shift rod fouls the speedo cable.

Any ideas how to sort this out? :spoton:

Thanks

Hey redrana..
have you just replaced an old speedo cable with the new one?
And if so I take it that it wasn't fouling before or have you just put the box in?
I too am running the muncie , but with a Speco shifter. My cable comes out btwn the 1/2 & 3/4 shift rods but clears OK .Maybe you might have to move the shift rods around a little.Mine are threaded at both ends and are able to be slightly twisted or moved to clear things once you back the nuts off. Maybe try that.
Or you might have to make up a new shift rod to clear the cable.
Hope that was helpful for you

You may have to use a right angle cable adapter which may help?

Hi thanks for the suggestions, I'll try rearranging the shift levers tomorrow as the first option, if that doesnt work I reckon a right angle might be an option. By the way is there a quick easy way of installing the clips that hold the sift rods onto the shifter mechanisims? Maybe its just me but I've had them on and off a few times and each time it takes a while to get the clips back on
