The 253 and 308 was available across the entire HG range including the Belmont but excluding 81837 the GTS 350.

The 253 had a close ratio 3 speed column shift all syncro. I think the 308 and 350 had a console shift Saginaw. The autos were Powerglides. The 253 and 308 Glide was a 6 cyl unit with a bolt on bellhousing while the Chev bellhousing was integral.

The autos were Powerglides.

According to the info I have, Trimatics were introduced with HT?

The trimatic was officially introduced in the HG, however there were a few hundred fitted to the last of the HT's at the end of their run.

I was under the impression that the only smallblocks in the early GTS Monaros were 327s, not 350s. Can anyone shed some light on that? Either way you can chuck a SBC in any Kingswood without a Engineer's Cert afaik.

With the V8 conversion... same stuff as the Torrie probably. If there was a different brake booster availible, that will need looking at. Front Springs, Radiator, Throttle Linkage/cable, Hoses, Exhaust, Wiring, Engine Mounts... :)

yeah thats what i thought i would need. Looks like i'm gonna start buying bits and pieces for the conversion :)

If anyone has a motor in need of a rebuild let me know as i'll probably snap it up.

a mate at schools dad had a hg wagon with a 253 factory 4 speed, mind you when i was at school it was nearly new. did a conversion on a mates 186 auto to 350\ TH350 a few years ago and if its drum front brakes and you convert to disc you need to change rear brake shoes from 1337 to 1338 and 9\16th wheel cyls otherwise you get a lot of rear wheel lock up when braking.
