Wasn't in HQ's - and this particular block is stuffed - have a look at the description and the photo of the stuffed bore.

Thats what I thought. I noticed the stuffed bore and thought - whos going to pay $400 for a stuffed block. Wouldnt be to hard to find a decent JL block then.

The JL block was a 202 cu. in. 'high compression' engine with a ratio of 9.4:1. Any LJ Torana, except the XU1, that was fitted with a 202 motor got this one- JL prefix and all. As everyone knows? the XU1 was fitted with a 202 cu. in. 'high performance' engine with a ratio of 10.3:1. These 2 engines were the only 202's fitted to the LJ Toranas. The same 'high compression' motor (ie. 9.4:1) was also fitted to HQ's but these motors had a prefix QL. It was the most popular engine fitted and squillions were built! The HQ model could also be ordered with a 'low compression' motor which had a ratio of 7.8:1. The prefix for this engine was QM. HQ's were never available with a 202 cu. in. 'high performance' engine.

Obviously JL blocks are not as common as QL blocks but other than the prefix there is no difference between the two. JL blocks are not that hard to find and for a bare block I wouldn't expect to pay anymore than $200-00. A QL block can be picked up from the wreckers for about $50-00.

With the damaged bore, the block currently on eBay would be more aptly listed as a 'Maltese boat anchor' as that's all it's good for :D . And of course no disrespect to the Maltese is implied or intended ;)

Cheers,
jpxu1 :)

Continued from above, I have just thought of one person who might want the eBay block. If it was the original motor fitted to your car, then it may have some relevance and could be made into an excellent coffee/beer table in the garage

Cheers again,

Now thats just plain silly. Anyone with an ounce of common censs (hey cletus wheres the monkey wrench) would know that block can also be used as a door stop or decorative ashtray. (Apologies to those named cletus, the Australian Federated Door Stop Manufacturers Union and also various ashtray makers.)
