R32 gearbox question

I want to run a manual gearbox and I've been told to use a R32 from a skyline.
The questions,
-Do i need to modify my tunnel to fit R32 gearbox? Is it a similar fit to the VL turbo 5 speed box in the VL tunnel, tight, but it fits?
-Do they run hydraulic clutch or cable set up?
-How strong are these gear boxes?
-Will it bolt straight up to the RB30 engine?
-Do i run a RB30 flywheel, pressure plate and a R32 clutch plate?
-Are the clutch plates in the skyline single or twin plate?
Sorry many questions, but i need many answers.
Thanks in advanced.

I don't belive any significant tunnel mods are required
R33 box is better RB25 engine. The R32 box only had the RB20 and wasn't as strong
The RB30 VL/R31 Skyline box would probably be stronger than the R32
RB30 clutch to suit (they are single... only GTR's usually got aftermarket twins - STD were single)
Go hydraulic as thats what they had and finding a cable fork will be almost impossible
You just need to figure out how to do it

all nissan rb gearboxes run the same bolt pattern and run the same 9.5" flywheel/clutch except the vl turbo mx7 box which runs a 10" flywheel/clutch but even it can be run with the 9.5" setup.
rb20 boxes are about $200, nobody wants them
rb25 gearboxes are $1500 minimum if you can find one, everybody wants them.
i just sold a vl turbo mx7 for $800

The RB20 gearbox is a nice box but will not stand the torque of the RB30 for long, especially with forced induction. They run bearings and strip gears as soon as you try to have some fun... They are about the same strength as a std VL box.
A MX7 will give good service, if treated with respect, for a reasonable price.
The best bet is the RB25DET (R33) box. Has the same internals as the GTR and is built like the proverbial brick outhouse... They are half as big again in diameter as a Vl box and a two man job to fit. Should fit the Torana tunnel tightly.
They will bolt on with either the 10" VL or 9.5" Skyline clutches and all RB/VL flywheels are interchangeable. The 9.5" will fit a smaller lighter flywheel or the 10" requires less clamping force... Skyline are single plate and hydraulic setups, the GTR with a small booster to reduce the pedal effort. RB25's use a stronger 'push' type system.
VL driveshaft fits all RB boxes.
The bad news is $1,500 plus...!

i know i found out the hard way, had to redesign my entire tunnel to suit an rb25det box and its a tight fit. rb25 is the best option or do a conversion to suit a supra r154

After many phone calls today i decided to scrap the RB30 with the supercharger idea. Why? you ask.
Well a r33 gearbox will set me back around $1,500 without clutch, flywheel, slave cylinder and clutch master cylinder. On top of that i need to rebuild the RB30 engine to handle boast without pinging.
So after adding up the figures, it's not worth it.
But, i found a RB33 half cut complete with box, loom and computer that's in my price range.
So out with the RB30 and in with the RB33. Yeah, i'm excited.
With the tunnel, i think the uc tunnel is slighty bigger. if it doesn't fit i can take the car next door which is profab, that's what they do for a living.
Modify cars all day. It's so hard hearing drag cars start up next door. Poor me.

I thought that the RB20/VL boxes went in with out drama. Were you chasing the correct angles when the tail of the box hit the tunnel? How does the shifter position work out with the RB25 box?
The price of the RB25 boxes is a sore point with me(I've seen 1 sell for less than 2 grand in the past year!) so I bought a 300ZXTT box(same internals) for $750 and a GTR bellhousing for $150 and had the two checked over and put together for another $250. Still cost me $1,150 so not a great saving for you but worth it for me as I was looking at $2000 plus.
The half cut is definitly the way to go as you have everything you need for the transplant. It's all the little extra's that add up at the end. I assume it is a GTS-T with the turbo motor? Easy 220-240rwkw with a tickle up, more available too.
If you get bored with that you can always slot a RB30 block in there and go for broke...!!!
