Round 3 of of the IPRA state titles is on at Mallala on Saturday August 25.
Historic Touring cars are also on the program so Toranas will be running in a few classes. Get out there and support local racing.

Mallala has the meeting listed as a twilight meeting, not 100% sure on this thou. Perhaps 350LH (Sam) can confirm this?

Sam. Wayne will be racing but Dave wont. I've been pushing hard to get Dave organised but work comitments, broken diff and licence renewal have lead to running out of time. Yours ready to go? I have new bigger camera lens too.

Yep, I'll be out there, been a long time since the last meeting so I'm pretty keen to give it a run.

Fixed the fuel problem, plus a few other small changes.. just finished my cold air setup for it, had to mess about with a custom air filter to suit the specific dimensions of the hole in the bonnet, should see it on sunday.. fingers crossed...!

I've heard conflicting reports as to whether its a twilight meeting as its starting pretty early, but I understand the meeting is scheduled to finish at 8.00pm so there will quite a few races in the dark... We should get the paperwork with all the details in the next few days so we'll know for sure then.

Sorry to hear Dave wont be out, no doubt Wayne must be keen to get out there in the hatch and give those new brakes a good workout.

roll on Aug 25th!!

Sam are you doing the Nationals? and are we going to see you at wakefield for the FOSC 2nd round?
Hatchman, looking forward to the action shots.

Cheers Greg..

Hey Greg,

Dosnt look like I'm going to the Nationals this year, but Im all set for the FOSC meeting in October! If it gives me even an outside chance of running at the mountain next year I'm gonna have a shot.

Will be my first meeting out of Adelaide, so should be fun. Looking at the layout of Wakefield Park, dosnt look that different from Mallala other than it isnt flat.. I'm thinking I'll stay with the setup I run over here and see what happens..

There is still an outside chance I might be going to Island Magic in November, although only a month after the NSW meeting might be a stretch.

How about the walky? Looking forward to seeing it out on the track!

cheers,

Sam

Been flat out with the XU1, getting it prepped for the Muscle car masters, so the Walky has once again taken a back seat unfortunately.
It's close though, bloody close, just need to spend a day on some plumbing of hoses etc and it's done, so it will definately be there....Those blinkin' hose fittings leave a nasty bite! where's me band-aids!!!
Have run Wakefield plenty of times, so PM me if you need any info on set-up or gearing etc.....

Cheers Greg..

Thanks for the info. Where would one normally find this info? I went to IPRA, Mallala and SASPRA websites and they all told me there was something on but no details to cost or times.

I thought it was originally scheduled for "twilight". Or is there something else on afterwards?

The info is on the Sporting Car Club SA website (who organise the State Champ Rounds), although it can be hard to find...

If you go here and download the competitors schedule, you will get an idea of whats happening when. I believe the admission fee is somewhere in the region of $10 - $15, if you want to be sure, give the SCC a ring and ask.

Yeah there was some confusion about it being a twilight....It was assumed it was going to be, as the single day meets often are, but for some reason they decided to start it earlier than normal so that it would finish before it gets dark.. dunno why, I prefer the night meets!

So as far as I know its all over at 5.00pm... although it may be a bit later depending on whether there are any holdups over the course of the day.

Thanks Sam. I forgot to ask Dave on Sunday re times.
I think the reason for trying to run under daylight for one day meeting is due to the Formula boring and other open wheel cars not having lights. The turn around times to get them all done before dark can be tight and the same for you guys sitting around for long periods of time while they run all thir races and than have races close together. Not good if you need to make repairs or change things on the car. I know I was hearing heaps of complaints about the long gap than every things go go towards then end.
I'm looking forward to it. Chelsea will be there in her race suit again. :spoton:

What a terrible day for it (not).
I ended up taking around 900 photos as usual. After deleating out of focus and out of shot pictures I ended up with around 600 I keep on file.
Congratulations to Sam for a personal best :spoton: on getting into the 1min 20's for the first time and doing it in every session. The car looks great on the track too with the new rims painted in black. You just need to get that fuel system sorted to keep that top tank full so the car can go the distance. It was too hot for my daughter to wear her race suit. Will have to wait for the next one for those cold Mallala nights. We did find out that she hates the four cylinders thou. She was ok when Wayne started his car and was giving it a bit of a rev (350 chev), she was ok near the marshaling area when the HQ's were warming up but started crying when a flying brick (mini) was reving and during the Improved production race (chook cookers and fours) in the field. Yeh thats my girl, dad hates them too.

Heres some photo's hope you enjoy.

They don't serve any real purpose. It's just a stick on graphic and smiley face. A lot of guys put tape or clear contact over their headlights to stop the glass going every where in the event of brakage. Wayne just did something a little different.

Thanks again for the pics Craig :spoton:

Would be nice to be able to run some bigger tyres esp on the rear...the rear flares look a bit empty.... damn CAMS rules!

Well for the second time, I thought the fuel problem was fixed but it wasnt, unfortunately its the kind of problem that only shows up after 5+ laps of racing so it was a bit hard to test in the shed... I was so sure I had found the problem I didnt bother going for a test day.. so I guess it serves me right!

Even with the problem, I still managed a personal best lap time 1.7 sec better than my previous, so it wasnt a complete disaster. My initial goal was to get into the 1:19's, I'm only 2 tenths away from that now, so 18's will be my next goal.

Spent last night pulling the tank out of the car, I've cut the top off it, and spent some time removing the shrouding over the pickup, plus the dividers, going to fill it full of antispray foam and add another pickup on the LH rear side which (fingers crossed) will fix it. Before I race it again it will be out for a solid day of testing first though..

Hey Craig,

Yep, thats some in car footage from Clint Sharp's Corolla, pretty sure it was round 2 this year, good to get another angle of whats happening on the track. Got a bit of work to do to get up to his pace, although I made a fair bit of ground at the last meeting (round 3) which is encouraging.

Heading out to Phillip Island in november, will be good to strech the legs on the ol' girl out there!

Phillip Island will be an awesome experience, I'd love to race there in the next year or so.

I've been there the last couple of years whilst crewing with the Shane"s AU in the Fujitsu's, now just awaiting our turn to run the saloon there.

The saloons have been invited as a support for the 12hour at Bathurst in Febuary, we've entered, now just have to come up with the rest of the budget.

We've also got our National round at Mallala this weekend, so between V8's, saloons & now it's speedway & drag season again & i just built my son a kart to race, time is running out to get our new VT saloon built,,,, if only i didn't need sleep zzzzzzzzzzzz

See you soon

Craig
