Hi john.

The 161S & 173S GTR engines were actually referred to as the 2600S & 2850S respectively in literature, even though their engine number prefixes were 2600S & CF.

These cars went better than you would imagine , with small cam ,two barrel 253 carbie ,XU1 headers and exhaust and a high compression head.they are a pleasure to drive .

Strange, that brochure shows the opel console. Slack buggers! Should be the LJish m20 console.

Back in the mid eighties my mate and i both owned lc gtr's, his had the original 161s freshened up whereas mine was stuff so i fitted a 186s with all the std gtr gear.

His car was only fraction off the pace of mine, he was pissed that he couldnt catch but i was always thinking that his little 161 was nearly as quick as my 186!

I ended up putting a 202 in it with bert jones cam yella terra and cd150 - it was the best allround combo i ever used

Another advantage of the 150's is fuel economy from Sydney to Coffs Harbour and back 186 XU1 had one fuel stop less than the 202 XU1 traveling together. The WW TWO barrel on a 161S is not much more fuel efficient , only giving about 28 to 30 MPG.Old fella talk is" tonne ,miles." But that doesn't seem to apply to thirsty 202's

"two barrel 253 carbie" and LC GTR carbie are both WW Strombergs but are different and the LC GTR had the headers before the XU-1 and of course most know that Harry Firth and Peter Brock used the LC GTR to develop the XU-1 into the weapon it became :spoton:

AS far as being great to drive  absolutely right but as they were built for racing, I found mine was a bit hard on this fellas ol' bod

That's why I up-graded to the SS

BUT I will always have a soft spot for the LC GTR :D

Regards ............................ Barry
