Hi there,
This is my first post. I'm considering installing some speakers into the doors of my 1976 LX Sedan. However, my door seals are considerably worse for wear.
If my speakers are in the door cavity in the rain, would this impact on the lifespan of the speakers? Or am I just worrying about nothing?
Cheers!

hey mate.
Im assuming you mean the outer seal at the bottom edge of the window.
ive got pretty old hard ones on my LJ, with speakers in the doors, mind you my car doesnt get left out in the rain all that often. It SHOULD be ok, as long as you arent getting enormous amounts of water into the doors.
maybe its time to splurge on some new weather strips!!
Cheers,
Chris

Go to the wreckers and get some weather shields(for want of a better word) from another model that suites, i think places like strathfield car radio sell them as well, they cover the top of the speaker exposed inside the door, a little like a weather shield on the drivers door.
Water on your speakers will deteriorate them quickly.

Maybe you could get a set of door trims that have holes already cut...instead of wrecking a set.

I already have new trims with speaker holes cut in them, but even so, I was still concerned about the water in the door cavity.
Thanks for all your help guys!

Any water that gets into the voice coil of your speakers will damage them. There are a few options:
Pods that move the speaker basket inside the car out of the way of dripping water (except some legroom is lost)
or
Plastic shrouds that sit over the top of the speaker basket are available - some cars have them standard (I think '84 bluebirds do for memory)...
