I know this is probably a simple question but there is no-one to call at 10.30pm so here goes.

When I purchased my LX with it's 253 I was told it was "Worked" and you only have to drive it to tell it's true. But due to a bit of falling out with the previous owner I never got the details of what "Worked" actually was. I want to know the redline for the revs for the engine as I need to do some calculations for possible driveline changes.

My questions are. . .
1) What was / is the original redline for these engines
2) Would a dyno be able to tell me if this now different from the original

thanks
Bren

it all depends on what has been done to it really, redline for a standard 253 is around 5500 I think, I dont take mine far past 7000.
have you got a rough idea on what has been done to yours?

my blue 253 used to go to around 55-5700 before it would valve bounce, it was in decent condition though. depending on the age whether its worked or not you might want to be a bit more conservative.
