Today was a private track day at winton. Yella and I completed 41 laps and I can assure you I will sleep well tonight. WE came 6th out of 22 cars and were ahead of some formidable competition. Winner (fastest lap) was a 996 Porsche that did a 1.42. something. My best lap for the day was a 1.47.4. She flies that Torana. 175 + k on the main straight which is only very short at Winton. And she handles like a go cart. At one stage I was going head to head with a Lotus Elise and whipped its arse. Kept up with it in the corners and murdered it on the straights. A guy in an Evo came up and complimented me on the speed. Said he could not keep up in the straights. Unfortunately, Yella has sprung an oil leak. It's made a bit of a mess of the undercariage and was dripping onto the exhaust, which was creating a lovely plume of smoke as I circled the track. The scrutineers refused admission for us onto the track for the last session because of the oil we were leaving behind. Geez, it wasn't that much. Anyway, I suspect a main seal. All will be revealed tomorrow. Time for ni ni's. Cheers

Can anyone come to these private track days or are they private ?
I reckon my car would do similar lap times and it would be a real hoot to run against that Harry replica.

The one I was at today was totally private. a group rented the track for our and family use for the day. You can go to winton on any friday and do laps. I think its about $120 for the day. You get a couple of 30 minute sessions. R

Most tracks have public open days (usually days not booked). I've found best to take a day off and do a week day event rather than the weekend. You get quality time, and less dickheads.

Ronald, good stuff. Imagine the dudes that race, that's just after 15 minutes with a lengthy break between sessions!!!!

Good Stuff! That sounds like so much fun! I would be awesome to watch her in action and also watch it whoop the ass of newer cars!

We set the inlet with silastic as the heads were shaved a fraction etc etc..When we set it, it had the tiniest oil leak at the front which left a small amount of oil sitting on the top of the timing cover. Ronny got his mech to change it and he fitted cork gaskets...after a day at Winton...on the last run it pissed out..hot cold hot cold..I am guessing..so it needs to have the inlet manifold reset with silastic when it is tacky so it takes and seals. No big drama..he smoked a Lotus Elise racey thingy car...the other guy was seen looking to trade his $110k Lotus for a 71 Torana...I love it! :spoton: Also has...cop this..and I dont want to steal too much of his thunder.....been asked as a special invited entry for Historic Winton and Historic Sandown...think they have taken our Ron to heart, they have!
