Ok starting to think about a car audio setup.
To keep it out of the way of prying eyes not have any visable decent sterio setup (keep it looking grandpa) has anyone thought of mounting a set of front speaker in the front doors in the std already cut hole but leaving the front layer of vinal on the door trims in place??????
So you still cut a circle out of the door trim wooden section but leave the front layer???????
Therefor looking stock???
Would this have much effect on sound quality, muffling etc or could the speaker not "breath" produce a good pressure wave setup like this???

Or just cover good speaker with cheap grills??

Dont really want them in the kick panels, but they are harder to see there....

my advice would be, if you want them there there will be abulge so they will be slightly noticable anyway. but if they are goin there, carefully take out the layer of board here the speaker is goin, then drill lots of little holes in the vynyl.
if you leave amplete layer on top the will sound out of wack, like you said, muffled.

Just put them under the dash in the standard spots if you dont want people to see them. Its not the best spot for SQ but it will sound a hell of a lot better than they will behined vinyl.
Cheers, Dan

I mounted mine in the kick pannels, or rather sticking out from the kick pannels. Hard to see from outside the car and sounds a lot better than you would think.
