gday all

i know that there has been a few of you on here who have used POR-15 on things such as chassis etc, and from what ive seen its an outstanding product. my question is, has anyone sprayed there engine in it before, and if so what was it like how did it come out, and how much paint/solvent did you need?

Also, if anyone else has any other reccomendations in which product to use that would be appreciated.

thanks heaps

leigh

I paint all the engines I do with Wattyl KilRust spray cans or any of the similar primer free paints. There is a great range of colours at Bunnings etc and the paint is quite durable (easy to touch up with the spray pack as well).

Delicious Red is my favourite hue.

Hope this helps.

Any decent paint shop can mix up engine enamel in any colour you like to spray. This will be the way I go with the next red 308 I paint.

I use Hi-chem paint. I normally use it with my heat gun and you can get it to look like 2-pac!!! I've just done my new motor in gloss black and it looks awesome!!
cheers

I use VHT canned stuff from Repco etc. Great finish. Holden Red or something along those lines comes out nice and original.

To answer your origional question. I haven't seen or heard of any one using Por15 on an engine block. I know that Por15 does not like UV light and I think heat is a problem with it as well but I may be wrong. Find a tin and have a read whats on the can or go to the website and read up on it.

Normal automotive 2pack paint holds up well and the advantage is you can mix it any colour you like. I painted this motor sometime 12-18mths ago and it still looks good in the car today.

It needs to be super clean and you'll need to use a primer that can be painted "Wet-on-Wet" on first and of course have the usual 2pack painting equipment.

i have a can of this in black, just been using it to cover bare metal quickly and is excellent stuff. is it heat resistant though? looking for something that will last.

Yep im after an original look! :D am going with a red for sure. i reckon it looks sweet. i think it was the VHT range that i read up on that said you needed to run the engine to complete the "baking" process? what if i wanted to paint the engine now and not put it in the car for quite some time?

The only problem with heat I have experienced is on the exhaust flange on Clevo heads, but everything seems to burn off there.

No dramas at all on 308's etc, and they usually get a hiding.

Heehehe...well im about to drop in my freshly painted 202 in this weekend...i painted it with the septone engine enamel that you can get from supercheap about $14 a can.

is that the sort of stock look your goin for? Its been sitting in my garage for some time and seems to have cured quite well so i think with the septone you'd be right to paitn it and leave it for a while. I just made sure that i scrubbed all the grease off it well before paint.

**OHH BTW if you asking dont flame me for the pod hahahah, its for the gas research carby!
