Guys how do i tell if i have a chevy or holden powerglide
while it is still in the car?
if it helps there is no adaptor plate and the engine no starts
with the letters QT wich i presume is a HQ series engine
does this mean its a chev pattern block?
i am selling the setup and would like to advertise it correctly

thanks Glenn

If it's a QT block, isn't it Trimatic pattern? ...Chevy pattern being Turbo pattern? Maybe I am completely wrong, ignore me :P

look at the tpo of where the bellhousing bolts to the engine, if there are bolts right at the top its holden pattern, if the bolts are a bit down the face its Turbo pattern.
I would say its Turbo pattern though

a holden powerglide has a bellhousing that can be unbolted off the case. most chev powergides have a one piece bellhousing/case

a powerglide behind a trimatic/aus 4 speed V8 block was only produced in ht in a small run and it is a removable bellhousing from the box like the 6 cylinders...all other powerglides are 1 piece and are suitable to chev blocks or holden blocks that are turbo pattern...engine number prefix means shit..turbo blocks were in all prefixes...QT..11QT...ZT...11ZT...WT...11WT...12WT...VT..these are hq to wb and early commodore numbers for 308....only way to really identify the difference between turbo and tri blocks is the positioning of the top bolts as described in a post above....
