Posting this for a good friend here at work, She is the grand daughter of a bloke by the name of Max Aubert, who had a fair bit to do with holden back in the 70s, sold his dealership in 79 (from what his gd knows)

She is just interested in finding out who owns and if she can get contact details of whos running the ex alan grice craven mild A9X.

I found this much-
"Tony, a Melbourne power steering reconditioner, located the ex-Alan Grice Craven Mild two-door Torana A9X that the Sydney driver raced at Bathurst in 1978 and used throughout the 1979 season. It was still in its original racing condition when Tony began racing it two years ago and today hes snapping at the heels of the Group C category leaders in historic races"

Anyone know "Tony"

any help or old photos of the car and team would be handy.

Thanks.
Chris

I am not sure if he does or does no have it anymore, he did last time I spoke with him probably 2-3 years ago but was suggesting he was going to sell it.

He does/used to work at National Power steering in dandenong - 9792 4430

I have some photos some where. He and his yellow A9x were also in Unique cars some years ago.

Yes, I know Tony, he is a member of our car club. He has an ex Alan Grice car, and his partner has Brocks 78 HDT sedan. I believe the car he was selling a few years ago is the Marshal Brewer car, which he sold to buy the Grice car.

Yes, Grice had at least 6 cars, and about 20 if you believed everyone claiming to have an ex Grice car. I can't see the pic but if the guys name is Tony and he still races it, then it's the guy I know.

I remember seeing this car (late 70's or early 80's) street registered in Sydney in its full race trim being driven by an "L" plate driver!!!!!

It pulled up at the Speed shop my brother was working at.

It sounded real good with its side pipe exhaust.

Thats Tonys car and thats Chiomi pushing it in the last pic. Tony isn't sure exactly which Grice car he has, but I would suggest it could be the second car entered for Bathurst 79, but I can't be sure. It's got the dry brake hole in the hatch lid, but I can't remember if it has the dry brake unit or not. It's had a decent hit at some stage as you can see by the bonnet fit, so it may even be one Grice damaged earlier in the 79 season. Don't forget as I said he had at least 6 hatches from 77 to 79, 2 of those were hand me downs from other teams purchased in 79. It would be hard working out which car was raced where and when as they all looked the same. There was a forum member here in Sydney a few years ago claiming to have one he purchased from Grice just after Bathurst and claimed it was the 79 Bathurst car. Grice entered 2 cars that year however and only raced one.

that car has her pops name written across the front of it! so even if there was more then one for the 78-79 it appears they were all Max Aubert A9Xs.

Grice had 4 identical cars in early 79
mid year he advertised 2 for sale
I can only assume they sold because not long after that he wrote off 2 cars and had to purchase 2 more from other race teams so he could do Bathurst.
In 1980 he continued to race a Torana and destroyed it at oran park in the last round. An ex painter I know told me his brother owned that car, still smashed as last raced bought from Grice in 1980. He never fixed it and as far as I know it's still sitting in the shed smashed up.
A guy who was a forum member here claimed he had the car from Bathurst 1979 and he lives in Sydney. It's road registered.
By my count, depending on what happened to the cars after he wrote them off, not too many would still exist

Hi
The allan grice a9x hatch that was smashed in 1980 was according to a book called Holden vs Ford (printed in 1985) converted into a sports sedan and raced again but nothing else was said about that car. I have a picture of the smashed car out of the book with a small story on it, but its still packed in a box in the shed, it also show a few smashed LJ and LH toranas.
No doubt as mentioned theres another 4 or 5 craven mild cars built.

The car that was smashed in 1980 was sold smashed up and is still owned by the guy as I said. His brother the painter kept getting hounded to repaint it, but since it was still smashed there wasn't much point. It's still in the colours and complete and in Sydney.
