Because of its position and location, the roof has proven tricky to paint and to get a good flow of application and over-lapping. Just wondering how the pro's go about doing it when it's so awkward to lean over the car and spray the middle regions?

Anyone know what's the best way of doing it? I don't know ... chop the roof off maybe? Get in a harness and swing from the roof? Dip a roller in some paint and splash it on? Attach the car to crane and dip it upside down into a vat of paint? Ok ... I have gone too far now...

Low level bench down the side of the car, i.e. few planks of wood on two little 20L drums. Either that or start eating your weeties so you ain't so short. Just make sure no trip hazards or hose catch points.

Actually, I've always painted em standing on my own two feet. Just run your air line up over your shoulder so it don't drag on the new paint. One side at a time. I wouldn't use the above suggestion, want to concentrate on your paint, not standing up.

Dad's 4WD that I needed to pain prior to sale, I used one of those foldy up ladders set up as a trestle.

But I eat 5 weeties every morning and if I push her any harder captain she'll blow! Well then it look's like I'm using the table, but man I don't like the feeling of it. I'll work something out. Cheers

Yeah, very distracting concentrating on whether or not your going to hit the deck rather than your painting. When I did the 4WD, the trestle ladder was OK, but yeah, not ideal. Bit wobbly.

I'm guessing your now discovering muscles in your arms that you never knew you had........hehe

I've always found it difficult to paint standing on planks or drums etc as I tend to lose balance a little and end up all over the shop.

If you were only painting the roof you could always let all the tyres down to get the car down a fraction, it won't be much help if you need to paint the sills though....lol

Always paint your roof starting from one side and working your way to the other, It can get a little painful maintaining the correct distance and overlap but unfortunately to get a nice finish thats what you have to do so suck it up princess and fight through it :spoton:

If your air line isnt one that wanders around then do as yella suggested and keep it over your shoulder and you might also be able to support your arm, wrist, gun with your other hand while you paint so you can maintain the correct position.

As you probably know preparing and painting a car will get your muscles working and at least you'll also develop a bit of fitness at the same time.....hehe

what is the best order for painting a car? start on one side of the roof, then move across to the other side then down to the quater on that side ect? do you do 1 continous run down the side of the car or do you do it a panel at a time?

Yeah Eddie i do live in Brisbane.......but how will you ever get any good at it by watching me do it???....hehe......if its any consolation you'll be able to tell everyone you did it all by yourself... :spoton:

I probably would if i didnt have a full time job, a wife 6mths pregnant, a Morris 850 on the go, My brothers Hilux (lowlux) project on the go, and an LX torana in the shed that although "finished" i can't stand to look at at the moment due to my colour choice.

Just get plenty of sleep, eat well and you'll be fine mate........hehehe
