Hi all. I've had this diff sitting in the shed forever. It's 3.9 ratio with Holden stamped all over it. It doesn't have the usual yoke you'd expect to find on a torry diff, however I'm thinking it could be a 4cyl torry diff maybe?? What are your thoughts?

Check out this link: http://antswebpage.spaces.live.com/photos/...FDC072!252/

The crown wheel has a number stamped on it: 7407396. The crown wheel and pinion also have matching numbers: 78455.

Cheers,

Ant

From the picture it looks like early Holden, which use a different univeral joint (no u bolts). Ratio is also correct for an early model.

Possibly useful to someone who wants to do 0-100 in 1.325 seconds, or to an early Holden restorer. If you want to sell it then its not worth a whole lot - less than $100.00??

Cheers,

Craig.

Agree, they will bolt into most red motor Holdens all you need is to replace the universal with an early one ,(but there is two sizes) . commonly used in the 70's if you only had a three speed box.and didn't live in the country.really gives top gear a lift.

Hi Ant.

Yes, it does sound like a Grey motor diff (FX to EJ), but is the crown wheel stamped 3.89 or 3.90.

I know this sounds pedantic but the difference is considerable when it comes to the tooth count.

The Grey diffs have a 9 tooth pinion & a 35 tooth crown wheel to give a 3.89 ratio, whereas the EH onwards 3.90 diffs have 10 & 39 teeth.

Hi Dr T. It doesn't actually have a stamp for the ratio, however it's 9 and 35, so 3.8888... ratio, ie 3.89 ratio. So would this then indicate that this is fact an FX to EJ diff? It's going on ebay. What do you think it's worth??

Ant
