the LX has that little bit of a loss, not good at all, 24HP could make a real difference come to think of it as every little bit counts!

^ I thought pre-ADR27A motors where 9:1 compression, they then boosted it to 9.8:1 after ADR27A to try regain some performance.

CAMS homologation papers show 1192 for the LX SS, 1138.8kg for the LX SL/R 5000 and 1186kg for the LH SL/R 5000.

Shows 240 SAE BHP at 4,800RPM for the LH SL/R 5000. For the LX it only says "Detail changes to engine to meet Australian Design Rule ADR 27A for Exhaust Emission Control introduced. Basic Engine design and displacement unchanged".

I wouldn't necessarily go on the CAMS Homolgation sheets as being gospel, but there you go, specially when it has things like an LX SS 5000 in it.

ADR27A came into effect around April or June 1977 from memory. This ADR brought in EGR etc (much more than just the old charcoal cannister)

I thought ADR 27A came into effect 1 July 1976.

Hi Guys.

There seems to be a lot of confusion regarding 5.0-litre V8 engine specs.

According to my information it goes like this.

1. Early LH - 9.0 comp & 240 bhp (179 kW)
2. LH (eng no. HT24413 onwards) & early LX - 9.7 comp & 250 bhp (186 kW)
3. LX 1st July 1976 onwards (ADR27A) - 9.7 comp & 216 bhp (161 kW)

These changes were in line with the larger HQ/J/X series Holdens.

Type 1 is basically an HQ spec engine.
Type 2 is the HJ upgrade.
Type 3 is the same as an HX series Holden. (The loss in output was due to altered cam timing and different head flow for ADR27A).

The other thing to note is that these hp figures are 'Gross', whereas todays figures are 'Net', so they cannot be compared directly. An approximate conversion is 180 kw Gross = 120 kw Net.

Thanks everybody,

What you have given me is close enough for my entry, doesn't have to be exact but interesting information none the less.

Thanks again, Mars
