First of all what a great site you have going here.Ive been looking for a site like this for a while and it looks like this one is a wealth of info.
My names Dave and I live in Murrumbateman (near canberra).
Alright this is my LJ GTR XU1.
I bought it about 3 years ago and havent touched it as yet.It didnt come with a motor or box and its missing one of the tags, but I got onto the Canberra torana club and they got onto hg350 who confirmed it to be an original.
It will probably make alot of you cry but I got it for the grand total of.......$300
There was a heap of new door seals and window seals in the boot to suit a LH torana which I quickly sold for $200 which means my XU1 owes me all of $100.
Im still undecided about what motor to put in it. Do I put it back to original? even though the numbers will never match or do I put something else in it such as a commodore v6?? Any input will be appreiciated.
Cheers Dave.

Late model EFI V6 (not necessarily ecotec)
5 speed box
Decent brakes and wheels (not too big)
Repaint to orig colour so it looks like the genuine article but drives like a new car.
Essentially an old school car with a new heart thats driveable and usable every day
And enjoy it
bguck the purists

Dattoman it will definatly be original inside and out just with a diff engine.I like the idea of the V6.
Dave720gtr Yep deal of the century. The guy I bought it off got it from a farm in young. the farmers kids were using it as a paddock basher. He was gunna race it until I came along.
Its missing the compliance plate on the left hand side.

This is just my opinion, but I think the XU-1 symbolises a landmark victory for Holden over Ford in Bathurst history, for that reason I would leave it all Holden. Screw the purists, but a Holden V6, 5spd and Borg Warner rear end would do nicely.
I'd definately suggest you choose the original colour or at least an XU-1 colour, and keep several things the same like Stud Pattern etc (that means that if you wanna wear some dress wheels for example, Summernats. But wanna take it to a Classic Car show, you can bolt some Sprintmasters on it). As far as I know, Sprintmasters never came out in HQ/Commodore stud patterns.

I want the car to look original inside and out . I love the XU1s.
I dont want to go crazy with it by putting in a big V8 or anything like that.I dont have to make a desition on an engine at this early stage anyway there is alot of work to do.
Thanks again for your input , Im sure I will have a million more questions for you hehehe.

Welcome to this place, you'll find it great.
If you plan to change it over, just keep all the original bits, so that if somebody does want to take it back in the future all the bits are there. Anything is reversible, just a matter of time and cost.
I bought the door rubbers off ya.
Cheers,
Pat.
