i ran my torana at heathcote last meet in december.

first time in the car so took the first run easy and i got 14.7 @ 112mph.

i though that mph was pretty good.

after several headaches, my last run got me a 13.7 @ 103mph. (still not flatout)

so explain to me this
-how i went faster by going slower
-should i expect to see that 112 mph again
-where improvement is needed

oops, should mention its a rb30t manual, in uc sedan

Can you post up the timeslips so we can see the intermittant times and speeds?

Cheers,
Rick.

I will leave the tech explanation of times and stuff to the experts... but I just want to say that the timing boards at Heathcote are known to throw up dodgy numbers sometimes.

Many of us have raced there in the past, and had incorrect readings on both the boards and on the printed timeslips. For example, my car runs around 11.9 or 12.0 @ 114 or 115mph pretty consistently. One pass at Heathcote suddenly showed up something like 125mph!!!!!!! No way, totally incorrect.

So anyway, looking at your times... I would say ignore the first pass reading 112mph. sounds like 103mph is probably more accurate.

yeah, as brett has said, Heathcote mph is sometimes a little bit out.... Maybe try glancing and your speedo as you cross the line and see if it roughly matchs up with the speed shown on your time slip...

Or if you know the revs it was at, you could work out exactly what speed you were doing....

112mph is spot on for a 12.0

ok, here are my times...

first run
60ft 2.42
330ft 6.62
660ft 9.81
660 mph 79.4
1000ft 12.5
et 14.7
mph 114.6

last run
60ft 2.08
330ft 5.88
660ft 8.95
660 mph 79.2
1000ft 11.59
et 13.7
mph 103.4

so, was the mph on the first run bullshit??

Yes it could be.
But there are a couple of other slight possibilities.
On the 1st run you had the nitrous on, and did a half track burnout while trying to complete the run. (If you don't have N2o, see my 1st line)
Or, on the 2nd run you managed to find a little bit more traction but lifted your right foot after the 1000ft marker.

ok, no nitrous.

well i didnt have a tacho, and had the cdi was hooked up as the std ecu packed up so i wasn't sure if it was safe to run with it so i didnt rev the thing out as much. i did get a really good launch compared to prevous starts though. and the clutch didnt slip in forth gear that run either.(or as much)

now i have a functioning tacho, one day i will go back and give it another go, i know there is more in it. (it was the first time driving the thing too)
